I heard that you could attach some files on the common application- such as resumes. But unfortunately, I did mine on Adobe Illustrator on a macintosh, whcih means that only the computers with the program can open the file. What should I do? I don’t want to make another one on microsoft because I like the lay-out I chose and I don’t want to not have to send it in, especially because I think the resume outlines my activities clearly.

I know that you don’t want to make another one on Microsoft, but you should have thought of that before you made one on Adobe Illustrator!

You can’t assume that every college you’re applying to will have Adobe Illustrator, so I suggest that you put it on a Word document. It shouldn’t take that long.

In AI, try the “Save for Web & Devices” option, which will offer common image file format chioces, e.g., JPEG, PNG, GIF, etc. You may have to play with other settings to optimize the conversion, and even then, it may not look as good as it does in AI.

If you chose AI because your resume includes photos or graphics, then consider building the resume in Word, imbedding the images and then converting the final product to PDF for free at pdfonline, which generally yields good results.
