Resumes for internships?

My son needs to put something together to distribute at the fall career fair. He is hoping to get an internship or research opportunity for next summer. He is starting his sophomore year so he doesn't have much to include but he does have a good GPA, work experience, a few clubs and some academic scholarships.

Can anyone suggest a website with examples, or make some suggestions? The school probably has something but we'd like to get this done before he goes back.

Do you eliminate everything from high school? I hate to do that because he had a nice list of things. It's hard to start over.

Thanks for any suggestions.

He can get a head start now, but it's a good idea to meet with the career services dept (or whatever it is called at his school) to review the resume.

What kind of research internship is your son looking for? If he is looking for a biotech or pharma position, in addition to the usual stuff, he should list relevant courses (e.g., Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, etc.) and skills learned in those labs (e.g., Northern blots, RT PCR, protein purification, ELISA, etc.). When we hire interns, this is what we look at closely. Additionally, many biotech companies will not advertise their summer internship positions until the end of January-beginning of March, so if your son does not get an internship in the fall, he should not write his chances off.
