Retake a 2190 in January ???

I got a 750 Math 730 Reading 710 Writing =2190. I last took the SAT in December, but I had a sinus infection and it was incredibly hard to write, at the time I was hoping for high 22’s. If I retake it in Jan, it will be my fourth time, and I will have to rush it to my universities… how will this look? good idea or bad?

The SAT is changing dramatically, so honestly, I would just call it a day and be done. What schools are you looking at?

WIth those scores, don’t you even dream about making a “good” university, sonny.

@Emily97 - I’m looking at HYPSM + others around the same level. However I’m not as worried as maybe I should be because my rec letters were all 10/10 (my 4 teachers made me write them) and I’m strong in other places… Btw doesnt the SAT change for the first time in may not jan?

I’m only a junior so I won’t give advice on what to retake, but the new SAT is starting in March, not January or May.

Whoops, my bad! I just assumed it was Jan, sorry. But yeah, I still wouldn’t retake- a 2190 is a solid score and you could always explain your illness in the additional comments section. From what I understand they don’t like too many attempts. If the rest of your resume (and your GPA) is solid you should be fine. Do some more research before deciding for sure, but I think you’re all set.

Well, you will not necessarily be fine. A 2190 is going to have a rough time applying to HYPSM. If your other stuff really is stellar, then yeah it doesn’t matter at all. But say you are kind of on a borderline, a 2300+ makes a big difference.
4 times though is a lot, so it may be wise just to focus on other things

I had my interview with MIT yesterday and it went amazing, so I’m probably just going to risk it with the 2190 crosses fingers, holds breath cause crazier things have happened

Hey good luck with admissions! But just wanted to add in, although I’m a junior, I would not write about your illness in the additional comments section. It would just sound like an excuse and probably do worse for your app than for the better.

@samsunguser Thanks ! and I know, I wouldnt do that. It was actually my mother’s illness and I was a caretaker for a while. Admissions have said they take that sort of thing into account, so I thought I’d put it in. It’s not a sad story at all, it definitely gave me character. Also, my MIT interviewer said “you have to talk about that in your application!!”
