My daughter just took the ACT and scored a great 34 (35 Eng, 35, Math, 33 reading, 34 science). My question is this, does scoring a 35 improve her chances of getting into a top college (say stanford or notre dame type) or at this point does it come down to her EC’s and essays.

If your daughter did little to no prep for that 34, then she might want to consider retaking it. The nice thing about the ACT is that you can select which test is submitted to colleges, unlike the SAT which sends all of your scores.

My younger daughter got a 35 on her ACT, while my older daughter got a 32. Both were accepted by some of the same excellent schools. The biggest difference was Carleton–where my younger is now a freshman. Her sister was wait-listed. This may or may not have had to do with the ACT score.
