Hey everyone, I just took the AP Macroeconomics exam, and I messed up on my submission (accidentally submitted my second page twice for Q1 so I have a whole page missing), and I’m stuck between retaking it and just leaving it. I’m going to Claremont Mckenna College, and am on the Georgetown waitlist. I will not get credit if I go to CMC, and if I end up going to Gtown, I’ll probably take the intro class to get a better foundation. Is it worth it to retake it to see how much I learned throughout the course?
I would retake it
As you wrote above, CMC won’t give you credit or advanced placement, and if you end up at Georgetown you will be taking the intro course anyway. So frankly, I don’t see any reason to retake it. You already know how much you learned in the class. You don’t need external validation.
If you need a particular AP score to get a particular grade for your class, then re-taking could make sense.
You could sign up for the retake and just not retake it if you don’t get off the Georgetown waitlist.
AP scores won’t be out until July. So your AP score should not have any impact on your admission to Georgetown. Unless Georgetown has said they offer credit or placement for the class, I see no point in retaking it. And can you retake it anyway? I’m not sure what the rules are about the AP tests this year.
My kid got a 5 in AP Psych and decided to take the intro level course in college, as that is her major. She was glad she did. College learning is much different from and the content of an AP exam. I see no point in retaking just to see if you know the content.
CMC gives advanced placement (but not credit) if you took both AP economics exams with a combined score of 9 or 10.

Georgetown gives 3 credits of ECON 002 for a score of 5 on AP macroeconomics.

However, if you do not intend to take advanced placement even if you can, then there is no point in retaking the AP exam. But if you can take advanced placement by AP score, it may be better to try the college’s old final exam for the course to make a more informed decision about whether to take advanced placement.
