Retake classes over the summer?

I’ve suffered from photophobia for years. Last year, my photophobia became unbearable. I could barely read a textbook without feeling pain and hallucinating. My grades dipped. My English grade went from my usual 90’s to a 75. I also got a 75 in AP Environmental (83.5 weighted).

This year–my junior year–my AP English grade is near perfect along with my AP Physics grade because my photophobia isn’t as bad as last year.

I’m going to the eye doctor in 2 weeks to get it treated, so I’m wondering if I should retake the classes over the summer so I have a chance at becoming valedictorian, or if I should study engineering and include a note in my college app–I’m planning on applying to Harvard, etc.–describing my circumstances. Thanks.

I would definitely have your GC state something about this in your application and ask your GC if getting a Dr’s. note to accompany their comments would be a good idea.

In terms of retaking classes, you would have to ask your GC how retaking a class effects your grade. If they only average the 2 grades it may not be worth it. Your time may be better spent taking a college class over the summer.
