RETAKE GREAT ACT COMPOSITE with terrible writing score??

I took the ACT for the first time in December and was really happy with my scores- 36 in every single section.
But then I got back my ACT essay score this morning and it was a 25!!
How does this happen? My writing isn’t generally this bad and all my subscores are like a 10/12… I don’t understand how that translate to a 25…

Is this worth retaking? will I be at a disadvantage for college?

thanks in advance

There is another active thread on the abysmal writing scores from this sitting. You are not alone.

Compared to some of the writing scores I have seen, that looks pretty good! Look for the thread that @AboutTheSame mentioned and you will be reassured.

Ok, thanks!

And a 25 isn’t really abysmal. Writing scores fluctuate widely between test dates. On the 12 point system, the Ivies all had mid-range writing scores of 8-10. Colleges probably only glance at the writing score and are much more interested in your essays.
After the December test, essay scores will likely become even less important in admissions.
