I plan on taking the SAT for the third time this October. I am confident that I can raise my scores in Math and Writing, but after reaching an unexpected record high in CR, I plan on not studying for that subject and concentrating only on the other two. As a result, I expect my Math and Writing scores to go up, but my CR score to substantially decrease, and my single sitting score may be lower than previous.

I’m currently looking into Brown and Dartmouth, who both consider superscore in their admission process. However, would the fact that my score went down on the third test shine a poor light? Thanks in advance.

I’d think not. After all, the whole concept of superscoring is that your strongest section scores across sittings are the best indication of your SAT aptitude (if you will).

If your CR score drops a ton, they might be confused by a wouldn’t worry too much. Focus on prepping M and W but give all sections your all on test day.

I definitely will try my best on the CR section, but I don’t know if I could even hit even close to my last score, since I don’t plan on prepping again and I forgot all the vocab lol.

I disagree with 31415…(what kind of name is that btw??)

If I were an admissions officer and I see a 200 point difference drop in a single section, it tells me one of two things. Either you neglected that section because you had already gotten a high score, which shows poor character and laziness, or that high score was a fluke, an accident if you will. As you can see, neither of those assumptions is good.

If you already scored high on CR, why not just prep a little, not as intensely as Math or Writing of course. It should take just a practice section every few days to maintain the score and you may think you forgot the vocab words but the second time around, they’ll be much easier to memorize.

Thrilla: That’s my exact concern. And the thing is, it’s much easier to study for Math or Writing than CR. And I’d have literally no time on my hands as I’m going to have to worry about college applications and volleyball season. Blerh. :/
