Retake SAT even if automatically admitted?

I’m a senior this year, and can’t decide whether to retake the SAT or not. CR-530, M-600, W-610. It’s not a high score, but the college I want to go to has automatic admissions for top 8%-- something I have. Should I just stick with my current SAT score or retake it? Most scholarships don’t really require a super high SAT score anyway, right? By the way, my main concern is gaining scholarship money.

Thanks.

Scholarships usually DO have a score component involved. Also, are you sure you’ll retain your top 8% standing? Pushing those score up might help you.

^ Completely agree.

Some schools will exempt you from math/English classes based on your SAT/ACT scores. I would find out if the school that you mentioned is one of them and act accordingly.

If scholarship money is key, then perhaps you can see if there is a minimum score requirement at the school you want to attend or if there is a range for scholarship winners. My guess is that your scores need to improve to get scholarship money.

It sounds like you may be talking about University of Texas (Austin). Being top 8% gets you admitted but does not guarantee program of choice and test scores can be considered to determine that and thus the higher the better, e.g., the average SAT score for Texas is about 1850 but those admitted to engineering, sciences, or business are usually higher than that… Its scholarships generally do not require test scores but good ones can be considered and yours are somewhat below the average student admitted.

I thought UT was at the top 7% this year?

^ Yeah. UT Austin auto admit top 7% only this year.

The majority of students score higher the second time they sit for the SAT. Practice the Blue Book questions (a lot) and take it again. Best of luck.
