Hello! To start things off, I recently bombed a final that would of made my final grade a B- on a class that was a major class needed to transfer (according to assist). I decided to take it for a P/NP (got a P grade, also missed the W deadline) a choice that I regretted. I am planning on retaking the course in a different college nearby for a letter grade. I am asking whether or not UC’s (and other private unis with similar rules) would accept the retaken letter grade for final credit evaluation.
@Gumbymom likely knows the answer to this.
UC Repeat grade policy:
A student is allowed to repeat each course in which a C-, D+, D, F or NP grade was originally earned, as many times as necessary, until the first time he or she earns a letter grade of C or better. The following rules apply:
- The replacement (repeat) course must have curriculum similar to the original course (the same content but not necessarily the same title).
- The new grade earned will replace the deficient grade in the GPA calculation. UC does not average the grades.
- All coursework (original and repeats) must be reported on the admission application.
- A non-honors course can be used as a repeat of an honors-level course.
- An honors-level course may be used as a repeat of a non-honors course.
- Repeat of C (2.0) grades is not allowed.
- Repeat of courses out of sequence is not allowed.
- Students may not repeat a lower-level course if a grade of C or higher has already been earned in a higher-level course.

So I wouldn’t be allowed to retake it so that the letter grade can match the course requirement?
The policy states you cannot repeat a P Grade so it seems unlikely that the repeating a P grade for a letter grade is possible. I would contact your CC Advisor and ask if the original P grade can be changed to a letter grade after the fact.
