I’m a high school senior taking the equivalent of AP Calculus BC (my school got rid of APs a decade ago). I have an A in the class, but it is completely proof-based. We are given homework once a month, which is a very challenging problem set that everyone ends up doing together. I don’t think I’m going to take the AP exam in May, mostly because we never have nightly homework to practice doing the types of problems we would see on the exam. Most people in my class end up not taking the AP. That said, when I get to Yale, I don’t know what to do about Calculus. Should I study for the placement test over the summer? Should I try to place out of first year Calculus? I plant to study engineering, computer science, or econ.
