I’ve taken SAT Reasoning test 3 times (2280 superscored and 2200-ish each time)
Japanese SAT Subject test 1 time (790)
US History 2 times (670 -> 680)

and the June scores that just came out…
This was my first time for all three tests:
Literature 700
Math IIC 780
Bio M 650

I’ve gotten perfect for all math practice tests and was expecting 800…
I took half a practice test for literature so I think 700 is pretty good considering that…
I studied my ass off for biology and look what happened.

although i WANT to retake math… I’m considering retaking biology and maybe lit this october…

i’m worried though… because I’ve heard of some people being rejected from colleges because retaking a test too many times just shows that they only focus on numbers and stats…

my QUESTIONS!!
for my PAST SAT tests, have I retaken too many times??

If i retake biology and maybe literature, would that look bad?

Should I even include biology and us history scores in my college apps??

I’m considering USC, Emory, cornell, BU…and some more schools…

I guess you could retake subject tests - I don’t think your current scores are off for said schools.

With score choice, there’s really no max on how many times you should take the SAT; unless you are planning to apply to schools who want ALL scores sent. For colleges that do want all scores, 3x has often been cited as the maximum number of times to take the SAT (not counting early tests during middle school for special summer programs).

However, with that said, the reasons for not over testing IMO are cost (who wants to give the CB more $$?) and the fact that it takes time to prep and take tests, time that could very likely be spent on more interesting and important things.

About the 780 actual vs. 800 practice on your Math2, that’s pretty much within the range of error, and adcoms are not going to distinguish between a 780 and 800.

For the schools you’re looking at, I think you should not retake any tests. Send your super scored SATs, Japanese & Math2 Subject tests (790 & 780 are great scores). Send the Literature if you like, 700 is a good score and since none of these schools require 3 Subject tests, they will either ignore or give relatively little weight to your 3rd score.

@entomom

not necessarily true
Colleges can see if you decided to use the “score choice”
So, with or without score choice, multiple times are still not that good
But, I have to recommend using score choice since you have to raise your score

To substantiate your statement, please give a link to where the CB says that using Score Choice will appear on what is sent to colleges. Also, will they know that Joe Schmo took the Math2 5 times or only that he chose to use score choice??

If a school really cares about students retaking tests they would just require sending all scores, as many schools have:
