I just made a mistake and am not sure how to back out. I realized that I asked one too many professors for a grad school recommendation. I just met with the one that I should not have asked today.

Any suggestions for how I should retract it? I don’t want to look any sillier than I already do.

I would do it as quickly as possible, so the professor doesn’t end up wasting time on something you don’t need or want.

Believe me, more than likely the prof will be relieved because writing a good recc is a lot of work. When I wrote them for students, each usually took an hour. Just tell him that you realize that you have enough reccs, and thank him again for having been willing to write one.
