Grilled peanut butter with mayonnaise and lettuce. Melt in your mouth delicious.
Tuna noodle casserole --though a modern twist with water chestnuts and scallions.
Bean dip in a can and Fritos. It’s a kid’s dream!
I shouldn’t have started this thread! I went shopping today and threw Stouffer’s creamed chip beef and a Chef Boyardee
pepperoni pizza kit in my cart. Haven’t had either for many, many years. At least I resisted the urge to throw Underwood deviled ham in too!
Ha! I returned from Target with two cans of corned beef hash. I know I could make my own…but I want the Hormel.
Yeah, I found myself looking at stuff today that I never buy , lots of Hormel stuff, canned meats ,etc. Haven’t had Spam since I was a kid and even then, very rarely. I almost bought a can of Spam so I kept moving quickly out of that aisle before I totally lost my mind!
I was with you until the liverwurst
Those are the entree in what is known in our household as Charlie Brown dinners (aka dinners dad serves up when mom’s out of town).
I bought a box of Franken Berry cereal last week because I hadn’t seen it in decades. Does that count?
And I heard a Steakums ad on the radio just yesterday.
@RichInPitt Had any Isaly’s chipped ham lately? Isaly’s barbecue sauce ?
My dad liked braunschweiger, similar to liverwurst . I may have to pick that up in honor of him. My mom made liver and onions just for him once in a while. I’ll pass on that.
I like Waldorf salad. I never ate it growing up, but my husband did. The first time I tried it was at a holiday dinner at my MIL’s house.
Oh gosh, that reminded me of one of mine - pizza burgers like what they served in my school cafeteria. I haven’t made it in a couple years, but think I will soon.
Last spring when the outlook on supply chain problems combined with severe weather in our area got my attention, I ordered about a dozen cans of Hormel products plus Spam and Underwood deviled ham to put in our emergency supply cabinet. It turns out that my tastes have changed a bit since our cash-strapped college years, so most are still there.
I grew up eating Waldorf Salad at Thanksgiving dinner every year (Christmas dinner too) and now it’s still a traditional side dish at those holiday meals. It’s one of my favorites!
Oh…Isaly’s chipped ham, yum. Can you still get it? My parents are from Pittsburgh and we used to get that when we went out to visit. Nowadays we occasionally get our deli ham “shaved”…using domestic ham, it’s close, but not the real thing.
Yes, I always get it when I visit my sister in Pittsburgh. I like it with a slice of American cheese, with some mayonnaise on a good bun. Also, like it with Isaly’s barbecue sauce on a sesame seed bun. My sister gave me some barbecue sauce at Christmas so I have a jar in the pantry now. I used a jar I already had a few weeks ago with some Boar’s head ham(since I can’t get Isaly’s in Virginia) chipped (shaved ) fine. I didn’t bother to look at the price before I asked them to slice it. It ended up being $11.99 a pound! Certainly, more expensive than Isaly’s , but I’d rather have Isaly’s because it reminds me of home!
My H recently made a pineapple upside down cake, which his Mom always made. It was apparently pretty popular in the 50s and 60s. I bought the ingredients for him and got Luxardo Maraschino cherries (made without the red dye or additives) instead of the regular ones that are bright red. I was skeptical about the cake, but have to admit it was tasty.
OMG, AI strikes again!
YES to pineapple upside down cake! May be retro but it’s a classic!
You can’t go wrong with brown sugar, butter, and pineapple!
Whoops!
Glad for the updated edit feature in the new format…off I go to fix that!
