I haven’t made pineapple upside-down cake in a million years, but it is good! I really only make desserts for special occasions and parties. With only DH home and no get-togethers, I think the last time I made something sweet was Christmas cookies.

My mother used to bake Jello Poke Cake a lot. Poke holes in a white box cake, pore on the Jello, frost with Cool Whip. I dont buy cake mixes, jello mixes or cool whip, but I am craving this cake! Good memories of getting a cold slice out of the fridge.

I make this every summer - it gets eaten quickly! Yes it’s full of sugar but it’s cool and light! I also don’t care for Cool Whip anymore so will either use a light frosting or home whipped cream.

We have a touchy 1950s stove. Beautiful, but not-so-slowly ramps up in temperature while baking. The last time I (sort of) made this, I was trying to salvage an over baked birthday cake. Jello can fix anything, right? I think I’ll give it a go this month, a little more intentionally!

I also love Waldorf Salad and those half pears with mayo and cheese

We just had Stouffer’s creamed chipped beef on toast tonight . Hadn’t bought it in many many years but decided to give it a try. It hit the spot.

Still have sloppy joes and waldorf salad every now and again.

I printed out the pineapple upside down cake recipe. I miss it.

Pineapple and cream cheese - canned pineapple rings with cream cheese mixed with the pineapple juices put in the center of the ring. That might be my next project!

Tapioca pudding!

Someone mentioned deviled eggs. I love them. Whenever I make them they go fast so clearly a lot of others do too.

My Mom actually made BBQ Isaly’s sandwiches for lunch when I visited last Friday to do some house work. It’s still good!

She said she got it at Giant Eagle.

Yep, Giant Eagle for us too . The Isaly’s chipped ham and Isaly’s barbecue sauce, very tasty! Always look forward to having it when we visit. Lucky you to have a mom that feeds you such a great lunch!

Yes to pineapple upside down cake! My list includes tuna casserole made with Campbells Cream of Mushroom soup, potato salad made with lots of mayo and sweet pickles. Tapioca pudding is always a favorite, and my mom adored it in her final years, made with soy milk. Does anyone remember creamed hamburger? My mom made it before getting into health foods.

D and her sig other started making pigs in a blanket as appetizers for a community holiday dinner. Most of the other food is farm to table-ish, but those baby pigs go fast and are adored.

There is a restaurant in town with gussied up deviled eggs, including caviar and other fancy toppings.

One of our COVID comfort foods has been cheesy tuna casserole with cream of mushroom soup. Only the 2 of us, so one casserole = dinner for two nights!

@sevmom and @RichInPitt. How about Isaly’s ham salad? I love that!

Now you gave me a hankering for the BBQ chipped beef. I think that showed up almost every weekend on the menu!

I’ve never used Isaly’s for ham salad. But, I do like ham salad. My mom used her old meat grinder to make ham salad with leftover Easter ham. It was delicious. My sister and I have picked up ham salad from the Honey Baked Ham store a few times. It’s very good. Now I’ll be having a craving for ham salad!

There were pickles in it, I think! Now I want some, especially if I can get it at Honey Baked Ham… And a Klondike for dessert.

I haven’t thought the word “liverwurst” in 30 years, much less tasted it. Thanks for reviving these memories!!

My grandmother used to tell me if I was bad I was going to have to eat liver for dinner. I must have been good, because I don’t think I’ve had liver, ever.

I recall bringing pate and good bread to pot luck dinners. Also, I recall stuffing mushrooms and artichokes for parties.

After taking a few college courses, I swore off eating liver for ever.

I thought Isaly’s was a single ice cream place near our home in Ohio when I was growing up. I had no idea it was a chain.

@simba9 , The Isaly family had a few stores in Pittsburgh. (I recall shopping at 2 of them, one near church and one near the Krogers where my mom shopped.) I didn’t know there were stores in Ohio! (Fwiw, there is some kind of bologna that my Pittsburgh relatives always bought when they visited Ohio. Any idea what that might be?)

Interesting history here. History – Isalys

And I JUST found out that PennMac can ship all the makings for a BBQ chipped ham sandwich! Thanks all for giving me this chance to eat my childhood again!
