I just bought a macbook pro 15" for college. $1680 - Best Buy was having some sort of sale on them.

I hear rumors of the new macbook pro, which is supposed to have better battery life (main selling point for me) is supposed to be released in the following few months, with the keynote only next month.

My deadline for returning my macbook pro is several days before the keynote, leaving me with very little information.

Do you think it’s worth it to return the macbook and wait for the new one? Cost is a very significant factor and I’m going into communication design (art) which is why I went with a mac.

Any wisdom? Thought I should consult the computer experts first.

Thanks (:

return the mac and wait for the new one

The new one is probably going to come out in October though, if past trends continue, so that’s something you want to factor in. If you won’t have a personal computer to use for the first 2 months of school, do you have access to computer labs/want to always go to computer labs to use them?

The new one will cost about the same but will be faster due to advances in the CPU and the on board GPU. I think if you are spending so much money you should wait for the redesign.

There’s always going to be something new coming out. You already bought a Macbook. Why bother returning it?

CPUs based on the 22 nm fabrication process use less power compared to the ones that are made on a 32 nm process ( in general) therefore they would extend the battery life of the laptop. Other manufactures have already announced their new laptops with the new CPUs so a short wait wouldn’t be that bad IMHO.

Agreed. It would be better to return and wait the comparatively shorter time for the new release. It’s true there’s always soething new coming out - it’s the nature of technological advancement, but we’re talking every couple of years, not <12 months or something, realistically.
