Are the group of people who review applications to UCLA the same as the board of people who review financial aid/scholarship applications? I want to use elements of PIQs in my personal statement, describing my career/academic goals. However, I don’t want to be seen reusing elements of my application if it is the same committee looking at both the school AND scholarship applications?
As far as I know AO readers are hired guns who get paid to read applications (they read something like 1000-2500 each) while Alum scholarship readers are Alum volunteers who get between 20-50 applications to read in their spare time.
It is possible someone is doing both, but I doubt it.
If you write honestly, I can’t see a scenario where the PIQ elements won’t be relevant on scholarship applications. Besides, your two applications are not read side by side and the chance of the same person reading both is statistically improbable.
Is this for Regents? That is administered by the financial aid/scholarship office. They do have access to your UC app. I think it would be ok to use elements from PIQs or expand on ideas from them, I wouldn’t copy them.
@gumbymom do you know more? Do you know if for Alumni scholarships the readers have access to the full UC app?
I know that for the Alumni scholarship, the reviewers do not have access to the UC application so the PIQ’s can be reused but hopefully modified.
Since admissions and the Financial aid office are separate, you could conclude there would be different reviewers but I do not know for sure.
OP might want to call and ask.
Did OP already get an invite into the Regent Portal? There apparently is a separate log in site:
Regents Candidate Login - UC Regents Scholarship Application
which is different from the general scholarship site:
UCLA sent out an email for Prospective UCLA students with a link to apply for Scholarships. I believe that is what the question is about.
UCLA did not send out invites last year for Regents as it has done in previous years. Regent scholars were automatically notified after being admitted last year around March 28.
UC Berkeley is the only UC that invites prospective Freshman Regent scholars for an interview which happens in Early February (Feb 9, 2023 for the last year) with the Early admits.
