Revealing Pre-med Intention on College Application

All,

My son’s college application has a question about future career goal. Are there any concerns of revealing the intention of pursuing medical career on the application for college? I remember seeing discussions about unfavorable treatment of pre-med students in some cases (grades, scholarship, and research opportunities, etc.). I can see that having a pre-med adviser would be helpful. However, is that so critical to have a pre-med adviser starting from the freshmen year? It seems to me that the advice from this forum is sufficient for the freshmen year. Thanks

I don’t see why it would be a problem.

^^^ I have found pre-med advisers to be very valuable freshman year. They helped me plan out courses for the next four years, figure out when I can study abroad, helped me figure out the most efficient ways to study for certain classes, etc…

Its important to start forming a relationship with a pre-med adviser freshman year, because it might lead to a really detailed LOR.
