Yikes. They could at least get things right now by going after the crimes committed by some of the participants. It has been Shaun King and his helpers who have identified some of the perps, not the police.
also how the hell is that different from telling them to “stand down”?
U of M has basically announced that Spencer is allowed to come to campus in the spring. There has been massive campus backlash. THIS IS WHY. Police either cannot or will not protect protesters. How many more must die before we admit that?
“Police either cannot or will not protect protesters. How many more must die before we admit that?”
How about this… protest in such a way that you do not endanger yourself or others (start by staying off a major freeway). How many more must die before we admit that avoidable stupid behavior can have really bad consequences.
Dietz - have you seen all the videos of white supremacists throwing punches at people who are just standing there? Or standing with a sign? Have you seen the video of the young man who was beaten by 4-5 white supremacists while police stood nearby?
How were these people endangering themselves? They were largely just spectators, like the woman who was killed and all the others that were hurt by the man who drove his car into the crowd. Should they have all just stayed home? Should the police who died in the helicopter have just stayed home? Should we all just stay home and let these criminals do whatever they want to our towns and universities?
@deitz199, you’re in the wrong thread. The frivolous lawsuit thread is a different one. This is the thread discussing the protest where white supremacists had a torchlight rally, beat up black men and murdered a woman by driving into a crowd.
@dietz199 the only one killed in Charlottesville was standing on a sidewalk when a terrorist mowed into her with his car. Maybe she should have stayed home,is what you’re saying?
I can’t forget about the librarian from UVA who was hit so hard in the neck with a tiki torch that he had a stroke a few days later. He’s in his 40s, and this was during the Friday night rally. After that rally, the police should have been warned that Saturday would be bad too.
I watched a segment on 60 minutes last night about how the White Supremist organizations are changing their “looks”. They used to be skinheads covered in tattoos. New leadership is encouraging a clean cut look and they are encouraging their members to get jobs in law enforcement, with a hint that they are probably in the Charlotte and other South big city police forces.
Yeah, there’s that Richard Spencer haircut, and I thought it would be a kind of marker but I see it all the time unfortunately. They also encourage their people to wear khakis and blend in with the crowd. Nasty people.
Yes. Part of the white supremacist strategy is to infiltrate law enforcement at all levels. Look mainstream. Get a job in law enforcement. Wait for the balance to tip, when the majority of law enforcement in certain towns and cities if majority WS. Then use the position to target minorities. I hope the ADL, SPLC, and other hate-watchdog groups are in front of this.
