Does anyone know if I should consider applying for the Rhodes/Marshall from one region more than another? I have addresses in both PA and MD, and I see disadvantages to applying from either. I know Georgetown represents a good percentage of Marshall Scholars, so applying from MD (which interviews with DC) seems unwise, and in general the Naval Academy and other military schools seem to represent DC for both Rhodes/Marshall so I’m not sure it’s smart to apply from Maryland. At the same time PA is against UPenn, Cornell, and some other impressive schools. Any advice?
Your school should be able to advise you.
It’s not a school that generally produces scholars, and I don’t think they want to advise me on this from what I’ve gathered trying to ask
There won’t be any real advantage either way. Your app will need to be strong enough to stand out in any region. Every region is super competitive since its based on state of residence. So there will be Ivy leaguers in each region. (My DD and her friends were Rhodes finalists from the same school in different regions). Good luck!
You need a letter of recommendation/support from your school’s Provost, Dean or President, so there must be a structure in place at your school to advise who is best suited to write that and how your application will be evaluated.
