Hey guys, I was wondering which of you are going to applying to RHS this year?

I got a brochure in the mail a couple of months ago (probably because of sophomore PSAT), but I didn’t really consider it until they sent me another one to tell me that it’s not too late to apply. So I researched it, and it sounds pretty interesting.
If any of you are applying, let’s all post on this thread and…maybe we’ll all get accepted together!

Oo, I got that too but I’m hesitant in applying. I’m from the East coast so going to the West coast would be a stretch for me =/ Not to mention I really don’t wanna leave all my friends and all. (And if I do get accepted, missing senior year? I don’t know if I want to do that)
I have conflicting opinions about whether or not to apply but I’m really tempted to.

I think I’m gonna apply. Because I can think about whether I’m going or not after I get accepted. Whereas if I don’t apply, I may end up regretting it.
I live pretty far away from California too. :

Yea, I just talked to my mom about it and I think I’m just going to apply and see what happens from there. I’m going to talk to my guidance counselor tomorrow or something and see what she says first.

We have to take the SATs soon, don’t we? Either December or November, right?

I’m taking the November SAT. And yeah, I think you need to take one of those to make the deadline. Cool, if you decide to apply, let’s keep in touch. Who knows, maybe (maybe!) we’ll end up meeting each other.

Yeah, I’m applying to RHP, too. As long as my counselor and principal are fine with it.
but i’m a little skeptical because i haven’t taken like every single ap course yet [my school doesn’t let students take aps til junior year, and i could only fit two in this year. i was going to take like four next year though…]

but if i don’t get in, at least i know how the admissions system works?! lol.

i have a feeling my counselor is going to be annoyed with me. i’ve been going to her like every month or so because of schedule changes…and now this.
yeah, i heard the admission rate is only about 10% or so. it’ll be a good experience if i don’t get in, but hopefully…
dopaminescene, are you a girl or a guy?

a girl LOL :]
my counselor’s all “let’s check out the logistics…did you do your graduation requirements?”
and i was about to tell her that i absolutely don’t care about graduating with my class, but i decided not to force the issue =P
she’s letting me know this week.

great! yeah, a high school diploma isn’t going to matter if my college degree is going to become my first degree. besides, if you wanted to, you could get a GED.
now, who to ask recs from…
all the teachers are so busy with recommendation letters for seniors. rawr!
is anyone else applying? it can’t just be the two of us from CC…

isn’t english teacher like a requirement?
are you asking your current or a past english teacher?
i don’t think my current one knows me well enough, but my past one was my english teacher then field hockey coach.

my other one is sooooo easy. latin teacher. had her for 3 years straight. easily knows me the best.

crapppp.
you’re right. i didn’t even think of that.
hmm…make a list?
ask the teachers based on how well they know you, and work your way down.
you’ll definitely find people who would be happy to do it. esp cuz we’re in a time crunch.

Some RHP students receive diplomas from their high schools after they finish their freshman year at USC. The USC year kind of counts double, both as the freshman year of college and the senior year of high school.

Just be sure to get your applications in by that early deadline so you can be considered for merit-based scholarships!

You need to check with your high school guidance counselor regarding a high school diploma, having enough credits, etc. if you decide on attending the RHP program. Every state is different regarding high school diploma requirements.

Yeah, I think English teacher is a requirement. I’m going to ask my English teacher from last year, because the new one has only known me for a few months or so. I’m a little bit torn between three teachers for my other recommendation though, since each have their pros and cons.

If I actually get in (eh…doubt) and my high school won’t issue an honorary diploma, so be it. It won’t matter much if I get my college degree anyways. The acceptance rate is about 10% for RHP, isn’t it? So it’s super risky…How are your grades and ECs, dopaminescene?

They’re good, but could be better. I’m fourth in my class.
I dance and have been dancing indian classical for 11 years. I play field hockey. I am an active member of 6 clubs. I volunteer. I am a student leader. and I have taken a bunch of courses over my summers in my field of interest. so i don’t think it’s impossible, I just want to try it.
how are yours ? prolly better.

Oh, very nice. ^^
Grade-wise, not so hot. In terms of unweighted GPA, I have a 3.8, but the margin between ranks is pretty slim. Ah, I guess I was a little more chill than I should’ve been. I’m also an active member of about 6 clubs, and am an officer in about 4 of them. Freshman year I was class president. I’ve interned at an overseas law office and I am an attorney at the teen court program in my community. I’m an AP art student this year, and I’ve won awards at the state level. I’ve played violin for about 6 years, have won some un-noteworthy regional awards, and play in a self-founded quartet and a separate wedding band. Other than that I also have some business-related awards on the state level.
Anyways, I’m writing my application this week…and it’s making me giddy. OO

hey all you rhp hopefuls
more than anything, the director of rhp is looking for engaging, bright, and mature students who are particularly talented in a certain area more than students who have incredible grades and scores but are boring and “do everything.”

i had a 4.0 uw and a 33 on the ACT, but i got into rhp because i was an intense ballet student, went to ballet programs around the country, and and directed a dance company whilst in high school.

Would being a committed dancer, and having a passion for neuroscience and taking many science courses delving into it be considered talented in a certain area?
I do many different things because I like to be busy, but I dance and learn neuroscience because I really want to.
