RHS (Resident Honors Program) 2009

I’m not sure what FAFSA and CSS are–unless they’re lumped together with financial aid. I’m not applying for aid, there’s no possible way I can qualify, really. So if I get a scholarship, that’s great, but I don’t need it in particular. So no, I haven’t done them–should I have?

Alex, I personally find pickles to be vile-tasting, so I generally try to avoid them. >_< I guess I just don’t like sour food in general. I hate vinegar, except maybe black “Asian” vinegar…

Charles, I’m Chinese too. And I can also speak Chinese fluently, since I grew up there (in Shanghai) until about age seven. What financial aid letter are you guys talking about? When did you submit your financial aid material, weeks ago? Because I just submitted it a few days ago (right before the deadline, haha), so hopefully this letter isn’t something everyone is supposed to get at the same time…

psymonsays511 (can we assume your name is “Simon”? Hah. ;D), I got the FAFSA and CSS things done on the 28th. Deadline is today though, I think…

Ah, you got me, Vicki. Uh on the financial aid website, it says the deadline is the second of February so I’m going to submit it today. Actually I got FAFSA done already, but my mom needs to finish the CSS thing.

Alex, even if you’re not sure you qualify, it would probably be a good idea to fill them out, especially College Scholarship Service (CSS) because…it searches for scholarships based on your information (I think). You can find the information for it here: [USC Financial Aid - Applying & Receiving Financial Aid - Undergraduate - New Students](http://www.usc.edu/admission/fa/applying_receiving/undergraduates/newstudents.html)

hand five to Simon! By the way, you, lolcats, and sprout should all fill out the little questionnaire.

As to aid, well, I need to talk the forms over with my mum. Thanks for the info; I do appreciate it.

Aw, Vicki, that’s a shame. But then, I don’t eat beef and pork and lamb for the same reason; to me, red meat is disgusting. I feel that really all meat is disgusting, but I don’t want to be anemic, so I stop at poultry and fish. But I guess not eating pickles won’t do anything to you. 'Cept maybe lower your sodium levels. Oh, wait, what about rice vinegar? Or red wine vinegar?

“Sometimes I play it pizzicato on my violin while holding it sideways, like a guitar.” Me too! Only more with viola than violin, because the viola sounds a little like a ukelele (which I always have said, but I confirmed this assertion when I got a soprano ukelele for Christmas!)

Hey, my friend and her brother and I watched Murder on the Nile last night (with Peter Ustinov, David Niven!, Angela Lansbury, Maggie Smith!) and her little brother got the entire movie pegged halfway through, immediately after the first murder. It was amazing. I better not ever play Clue with that kid.

Anyhow, anyone here like hats? I’m a hat person. Have about ten really good ones. It’s a slow kind of collection.

Hey guys!

I haven’t been on in quite a while, since I started playing World of Warcraft (it’s very addicting, and nine of my other friends all play so we “raid” together) :]

Well just yesterday my computer completely stopped working (I tried running Counter Strike with WoW in the background, HORRIBLE IDEA), and can’t even boot up properly now, so now… personal profile time! :D

My name’s Alan
Asian male
LA, SoCal
Likes playing computer games, chatting/webcamming, using FaceBook, surfing the internet (failblog.org) LOL
Level of enthusiasm: 5 / 5
Prospective major: I’m actually not certain which subject I want to major in; I signed up for Business Admin, but I’m kind of interested in Electric Engineering/Accounting
I don’t really have any dislikes, but I have to agree with Vicki, that pickles are DISGUSTING LOL (and beans)
Favorite Foods: everything except beans/pickles
Favorite types of music: I’m fine with any type of music, but when I’m driving, I like listening to “gangster” music, like 50 cent or lil’ wayne
Weird habit: Once again Vicki, I ALWAYS do that HAHAHA
If accepted, likelihood of going to RHP: 100% (I really want to go =])
If accepted, I hope my roommate will be: super funny and outgoing

By the way guys, when do the first acceptances typically come out?
The first week of February?

White male
NY
Likes film, music, theater, reading, traveling.
Level of enthusiasm: hard to say… but I am definitely leaving high school if presented with an opportunity
Prospective major: film
Dislikes: hmm. ignorance?
Favorite foods: anything vegetarian (although I eat fish)
Favorite types of music: indie rock (wish I knew classical music like you smarties!)
Weird habit: making lists, re-organizing things, spacing out
If accepted, I hope my roommate will be: quirky, not a jock, kind

Two more guys! I thought for sure that the girls would far outnumber you.

I haven’t noticed, have any of you analyzed how likely you think it is that you’ll get it?
I suggest an addition to your categories:
Self-perceived likelihood of admission into RHP: x%

Yay Alan, my new-found twin! I’ve never known anyone else to do the paper thing. This makes me so happy! xP
I have a Facebook too, so if by chance both of us makes it, we should become Facebook friends, haha. Or real friends. That would be cool too. ;P

topher93, so you’re a lurker, eh? Why don’t you come join us, and take our questionaire? Nice to meet you.

Self-perceived likelihood of admission…I’m not sure if I can estimate that. I know statistically a person getting in has a less than 10% chance. And since I probably didn’t come off as quite “normal” in my application, it could swing both ways. They could think I’m amazing. Or a psycho. So…I don’t want to think about it, ahhh!

Self-perceived likelihood of admission: Maybe 50%? I’m honestly not sure. I’m probably not one of the worst people they’ve seen, but definitely not the best as far as SATs and number of AP classes. And I don’t have an unweighted 4.0.

hahaha me neither vicki!
my last name’s “wong” if you wanna look for me in facebook! I go to Walnut High School
how can i find you?

well I actually have no idea of my % chance of getting in haha
do you guys remember ever paying for any part of the admissions process?
I don’t think i’ve paid yet! =P

Huzzah for Facebook, the “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Myspace!” bringer-together of society.

“topher93, so you’re a lurker, eh? Why don’t you come join us, and take our questionaire? Nice to meet you.” Ditto.

Sprout: About half the things on your list I find are in accordance with myself, namely:
“Like film, music, theater, reading, traveling”, want “quirky, not a jock, kind” roommate, and favorite foods include “anything vegetarian (though I eat fish too)”.

Yeah.

So, anyone have any good fund-raiser ideas? I have a (writing) club in dire need of one.

Alan:

You didn’t pay for the actual application? Did you do it online or did you send it in the good ol’ snail mail?

poirotsfriend,
This is just a bit of information which you may find interesting. You mentioned MySpace. Did you know Chris DeWolf, who has his MBA from the SC Marshall School, is the CEO and Co-founder of MySpace?

Hey Alex,

I did my entire application online, but of course my part 1 was sent through mail.
So weird huh?!? When were you asked to pay or enter your credit card information?

there wasn’t any step asking for any information or payment, and my current status is:

“Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1. If for some reason you don’t receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning April 11th.”

Have you guys all paid? Also, did you guys submit your mid-year grades yet?
I got TWO B’s, so I don’t think I’ll submit them unless they ask =D

so weird, but i find myself refreshing this page every few minutes -_-

do you guys mind posting a quick summary of your SAT scores and GPA?
just for personal reference? =D

here’s my summary:
2240 SAT 1’s
800 SAT II Math
3.89 uw, and i THINK my weighted is 4.18 =P

What about you guys?

No, Georgia Girl, I did not know that.

Alan, as far as your application goes . . . I have no idea how you got it submitted without the mandatory application fee. Everyone knows that you have to pay to get your application reviewed. They have to pay for people to review your application (it takes time) and they also don’t want just a whole ton of kids applying just for the heck of it. (That’s the standard for pretty much every big school, actually.) Did you actually submit your application, or did you fill it out and never submit it? Very strange otherwise. Very strange indeed.

Um, my scores are about there, but I’m not really interested in giving them out. Sorry. Just an internet identity thing. It’s nothing personal.

For the record, when I am on the computer, I do check this thread very often as well. Though I do get the subscription, so if I ever forget to check, a reminder’s in my email.

I’m guessing I’m not going to get in, so I don’t really know why I bother. Except it is nice to dream.

crazyii: I’m sure you payed at some point and don’t remember it if it says that for your application. Don’t worry about it. I’m sure mid-year grades aren’t a big deal either. But yeah, I submitted my semester grades as soon as all our finals were graded. They asked me to mail them a report card though, and I know that my school won’t release official ones for at least a week or too. I hope they don’t get my online submission and take it as a case of premature joculation (look it up on urban dictionary).

Also, I didn’t want the personal profiles thing to turn into a brag sheet on our stats cuz things might get a little…intimidating and competitive.
If you want to know:
uw: 4.0
weighted: 4.7
SAT 1: 2380
took SAT II math in Jan, think I did well, but it was one of those tests that could go either way for me

I’m sure SAT and GPA are less important compared to EC’s, maturity, passion, and general likeability.

Yeah, I’d like for this not to turn into a ‘brag sheet’. Remember that some of us may actually be living with one another sometime soon. some very lucky ones!

Oh, this should cheer you guys up. It did me:

I applied by the scholarship deadline but haven’t gotten any letter yet. Does this mean that most likely I got rejected?

No dapplesmyapples, it does not mean you were rejected. The bulk of the acceptances go out in March. No letter in these two waves simply means you were most likely not considered for the two big scholarships.

DANG chuckles! nice!

hahahah i just checked my account summary and i did pay! I really don’t remember when, but on the summary it says i paid on 11/21, almost a whole 10 days before i sent in my application!

sorry for the fuss guys =]

So what’s your guys’ statuses on the USC application website?
