Rice 2016 Applicants Thread

Today, or on the 15th?

Today or 15? How does everyone know when they are coming out?! I wish everyone well.

:D :D

No email or Esther notifications about decisions were posted today.

@oarican - How did you know decisions would be posted at 5 pm?

Goodluck everyone! I didn’t apply but my cousin did.

My D applied early decision though she has a very close 2nd for her top choice so I know she will be fine whether she is accepted or not. Can’t the 15th get here already?! She is taking her finals this week and seems to be totally calm about the whole decision thing. I, on the other hand, am a nervous wreck!

ausmom40 - me too!!! My D has also come to realize if the Rice news is bad, that she will be happy at her 2nd or 3rd choice - this makes me happy, but no less nervous! And seriously, longest wait for a date to arrive EVER - more so than even waiting for Christmas Day as a kid!!!

Do you mind sharing what your D’s second choice is?

maidenMom - her 2nd choice is Trinity University in San Antonio. I really liked it too. We are from Texas (Austin) and she wanted to stay in the state. Trinity has great academic rep and she loved the feel of the campus during our visit.

How about your D? What are her other choices?

Oh, Trinity would be good!

My D actually always wanted to go out-of-state, but fell madly in love with Rice around sophomore year so her other choices are out of Texas. Swarthmore and University of Rochester. We are from a suburb of Houston and she spends (and has been spending) a lot of her spare time around Rice.

Great choices too, maidenMom! I hope it works out well for both D’s!

I’ve been checking my email nonstop for days now…I hate the waiting! I graduated high school early, so I’m in a weird situation. I’m probably going to UT Austin for the spring semester starting in a few weeks, but I applied to Rice for next fall because it’s my dream school. I figure theres maybe a 10% chance I’lll get in, in which case I won’t go to Austin. I’m trying not to get my hopes up too high. But I’m crazy nervous!

ED applicant from Alaska!! Haven’t slept right for almost a week. I heard we can expect decisions today at 5pm Houston time, but that was just from past years applicant’s experience… I really hope so, I don’t think I can handle anymore waiting!!

Few more hours people! Im so nervous!!!

So, last official word from the Rice Admissions office - decisions to be released late tomorrow afternoon or early evening - the wait won’t be much longer, but it will def be tomorrow.

Hang in there, everyone, and best wishes!

Don’t worry, the wait will be over before you know it. I was so nervous during my wait last spring, but it will come. Just hang in there! Good luck guys!

@katebell - Alaska, huh? That’s awesome! I actually just met a girl at Rice from Alaska a few days before I left for break.

From experience, I’d expect the email around 5:00 p.m. Most admissions offices time decisions to go out after they close for the day, presumably so that they don’t get spammed by (angry) phone calls.

Noooo I was mentally prepared for it to be today! Man… Good luck to everyone!!!

@FalleAngel09 - Yep! Born and raised! Although right now I’m actually in Brazil, I graduated a year early to do a gap year before college.

Fingers crossed for an Approved tomorrow!!!

If you guys are South Park fans, watch the episode ‘Go God Go’ again.

Please do not attempt to freeze yourselves ;)

I just talked to the admissions office, they said that it will be up on Esther tomorrow (including finaid info) and an email, and the mailed stuff will be sent out tomorrow.

Good Luck Guys, Down to the last 24 hour stretch, try not to stress too much!
