Rice 2016 Applicants Thread

Thank you so much RiceHopeful2012, I’ll look it to that.

Can you guys post stats and decision once you find out?

Less than 1 hour left!! Aaahhh!!! So nervous :/

Good luck everyone! Ahh, I’m absolutely freaking out!!! :P

if financial aid is too low, how can we go about asking for more?

Accepted - awesome!

If we got a merit scholarship, would we be notified now, or do they figure that out after the RD decisions are out too? I was really hoping for an Engineering scholarship. :/

I think the merit aid comes in the physical package, not the email, but I may be wrong. Or I may just be hoping.

Hopefully you’re right, and hopefully the package will come tomorrow. Good luck to you and anyone else hoping for a bit more financial aid.

I’m pretty sure merit aid is after RD, but I could be mistaken. Fortunately, I got a solid amount of financial aid :D

Nice! Mine’s not too bad - but anything extra is appreciated! :P

Haha, of course, but I’m going to apply for outside scholarships to make up the difference, I don’t think merid aid is too easy to come by from a top 20 university.

^^^ I think I read somewhere that 1/3 students at Rice gets some sort of Merit aid, I could be mistaken though.

I think it’s the top quarter who get merit aid, but I’m not entirely sure.

Hmm, that would be nice, so far my calculations for cost of attending have included 0 merit aid, so that would be a pleasant surprise. Anyone got links to back this up?

[Rice University Tuition, Costs and Financial Aid - CollegeData College Profile](http://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg03_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=731)

That link has some data
“Merit-Based Gift
Received by 65 (16.5%) of aid recipients
Merit-Based Gift
Received by 144 (15.2%) of freshmen without need, average amount $16,083”

It says “freshmen without need”, so can financial aid beneficiaries not recieve merit aid?

I believe you can receive merit aid with or without demonstrated need. The first statistic (16.5%) seems to be referring to freshmen receiving need-based aid already.

Oh, my bad, totally skipped over that. Well, yea that’s a pretty small percentage, only 16%, and I’d assume some of those come from crap like the 1k NMS scholarship…

ESTHER shows that I’m deferred but I received an email “Rice Deposit” telling me that I’m accepted and I will have to accept my offer…that’s weird

I got in!! I’m definitely going to be checking my mail today (: Congrats to everyone else who got accepted also!
