Rice Accepted but Not Going

How many of you are accepted, but have decided to attend another college?

Which college/university have you decided to attend and why?

Thanks in advance for your input.

I have been accepted but will probably not be attending because, although rice has really good political science, it does not have an international relations major, which is what I want to major in. I don’t know for sure where I’m going instead (I’m still waiting to hear from Ivies on 4/1), but I’m leaning towards Swarthmore or UChicago, because I really like the quirky intellectualism of both of those schools.

My son will probably attend Harvey Mudd, which has always been his first choice. (Rice is mine, but I don’t count.)

Actually, the schools seem pretty similar (when you take the Claremont Consortium into account) - it boils down, for him, to the Math/Science focus, four years of housing, smaller size, probable smaller class sizes, the great teachers (two of whom he’s already experienced), and the teensy edge in SAT scores.

I was accepted, but I will be attending WUSTL. I like the idea of a medium sized school (not as small as Rice) and I can minor in music at WUSTL (Can only take classes at Rice, not minor). Also, I was offered a research internship at WUSTL but didn’t get any merit money or research guarantees from Rice. Both schools are great and it was a very tough decision.

I cannot attend because they expect me to dish out 47K/year.

Yeah, same. I can’t attend because for some reason, they think my EFC is $50,000. Six public universities have already calculated that my EFC is around $33,000. (even that is pretty unaffordable for us, though, haha)
