Me too!!
Is it a likely letter?
lmaooo jkjk⦠I wish
I got it too! Not sure if itās sent to everyone who applied or a likely letter of sorts
Iām pretty sure itās just sent to everyone lmao @avavava but Iāll pretend itās a likely
Did Rice recently request an additional form on IDOC, the Dependent Student Verification Form. Iām pretty sure It wasnāt there when I first applied. Anyone else?
Sonās now shows missing Studentās W-2 Forms, even though we uploaded W-2 Substitute to IDOC on October 1.
Nothing else to be done at this point, so weāll just let it simmer.
Is the admit day or owl day free to attend?
If Rice Financial Aid is requesting additional forms or shows something is missing, you should call or email them to see if you need to send/resend the forms on IDOC or by another means such as email, fax etc. Some of the forms can be seen here. https://financialaid.rice.edu/2019-2020-forms
Does anyone know when decisions are coming out?
Last year was March 26th which was a Tuesday. If they stick with the same timing it will be the week of March 23rd, the 24th if they stick with a Tuesday. The will probably announce exactly when decisions will be out closer to the date.
Portal says April 1st.
@TheVulcan do you see that on the Rice Portal?, for me IDOC forms is just 1 entry on the Rice Portal. The dependent Student Verification form was something on IDOC, and it showed that Rice had requested it along with 2 other schools. Did you see something else?
Rice officially canceled all admission events.
snippet from email:
⦠all on-campus admission events have been cancelled through April 30. We do not currently anticipate that this situation will impact our admission process or timeline.
ā¦
Yeah, I got that email too. Did everyone?
Pretty unfortunate?
Universities all over the country are cancelling admission events. This is done out of an abundance of caution. Rice cancelled classes for this week, and next week is spring break. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Novel-coronavirus-prompts-Rice-University-to-15115459.php#
Did anyone not get the email?
Owl Days/Admit Days and all admission tours have been cancelled. https://admission.rice.edu/information-about-novel-coronavirus-covid-19?fbclid=IwAR0vaF-SnjILg8AqoKLaQIbRCB148_6HFM0q5qe-_sj9Iyn5mZlid-S8Lv0
Completely get why they are doing this but itās still disappointing. As many of us with connections to the school know, Rice is a special environment, with a beautiful campus and extremely friendly student body that really shines when visited. MY D would probably not have attended if she hadnāt been able to visit last April. Rice says:
āIn the coming weeks we will be connecting with admitted students, current students and campus partners to discuss the potential of virtual events for our admitted students to participate in.ā
I will be interested to see what they come up with!
Understandable but very disappointing. Iāve been accepted at Vanderbilt but still waiting on Rice and planned to visit both campuses in April to help me decide. Any insight to differentiate between the two would be welcome and appreciated!
@losername Congratulations on your acceptance to Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt is a great school. I attended law school there. My daughter that is at Rice attended a summer program there and applied as well. She chose Rice over Vanderbilt because she felt it was a better fit. Vanderbilt has more of a southern, preppy vibe while Rice has more of a casual vibe. The Greek system is very prevalent at Vandy while Rice does not have frats or sororities. Rice has 11 inclusive residential colleges instead. Rice students stay with their residential colleges all 4 years. Vanderbilt has residential commons for freshmen and some residential colleges for upper classmen. Vanderbiltās residential colleges do not replace Greek life. Vanderbilt and Rice are both in very nice parts of vibrant cities. Nashville has the country music/entertainment industry while Houston is has the oil and gas industry. I am sorry you are not going to be able to visit Rice or Vanderbilt in order to compare the schools⦠Rice students are not really into spectator sports, and most do not attend the football games. Rice is a Division 1 school but plays in a minor athletic conference. Vanderbiltās students attend the football games, and Vanderbilt plays in the SEC. Both Vandy and Rice have excellent baseball teams. Both schools are located near medical centers. Rice does not have its own medical school but has some graduate programs such as the MBA program. The focus at Rice is on the undergraduate education experience. Vanderbilt has its own medical school and a law school while Rice does not.
