Rice University Class of 2023 RD Thread

Rice was my dream school. Ever since I visited in my junior year I knew it was the perfect school for me. I visited 12 schools and none could compare to Rice. I had great extracurriculars, an UNweighted NGA of 98%, 9 APs, a 34 ACT, great recs, and an amazing interview that showed how much I loved the school. I knew the odds were slim, but I never expected rejection because I thought it was meant to be. This REALLY hurts. To those of you who are waiting to hear from your dream schools, please remember there are still other great options. Congrats to those who got in. Don’t underestimate Rice in making your decision. It is the most phenomenal school I have ever been to (12 college visits!). You would be one of the luckiest people in the world to attend.

Accepted to the engineering school!

Daughter SoCal Rachel is a champion winner in every regard! She didn’t get into Rice but will get into somewhere great. I will update soon with her destiny moments! She is already accepted into Air Force Academy, West Point, USC, UCLA, UC San Diego, and Wellesley near Boston! Thursday she will hear from the ivies, Duke, Vanderbilt, and UC Berkeley. I have a beautiful and immensely talented daughter and I am convinced she has a magnificent future awaiting her! Congratulations to all new Owls. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Rice. All future Owls to keep you motivated, encouraged, and blessed over the next 4 years I strongly recommend you check out LYA (Lakewood Young Adults) with Pastor Nick Nilson at Lakewood Church! That entire vibe and community will outpour love on anyone who comes into contact with them. Your best days are still in front of you!

Accepted! I was told that from my demographic it wouldn’t happen. I made fun of myself, to an extent in my essays. If you’re reading this as a student of class of 2024, you can do it!

WL but feels like RJ.
Duke/Vandy must be RJ/WL too.

Moving on to back-up/first choice/only choice BS/MD program at TAMU.

Congrats to accepted owls, and Good Luck to others.

take care and be safe. last post on Rice thread.

http://www.ricethresher.org/article/2019/03/acceptance-rate-hits-record-low-of-8-7-percent

Rice University accepted just 8.7 percent of applicants in the 2019 admissions cycle, according to Vice President of Enrollment Yvonne Romero da Silva, setting a record for the lowest acceptance rate in the university’s history. In all, combining both regular decision and early decision applicants, 27,084 students applied and 2,364 were accepted.

Anyone knows the admissions rate for RD, and the student profile?

My daughter from NJ received a fee waiver and was admitted. She didn’t have the highest SAT either I think 2230 old scale ? 32 33 ? ACT. And no real hooks. As everyone says the admission process is unpredictable

got in!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

DD rejected

4.3
1500 SAT/33 ACT
NASA Internship this school year
Interviewed

Ok too bad. . . Hard pill to swallow for DD and I’m sure for the thousands of other applicants

@Faulkner1897 So that means the RD acceptance rate was a flat 8.0%.
If they are still targeting a class size of 950, the RD yield would have to drop to 28.2% (I was sure that it was going to increase with the new FA rules but I guess I was wrong)

Huge congratulations to everyone who was accepted, especially those of whom had Rice as their number one (my best friend was one of such people)! I know how it feels to have all your hard work pay off for your top school! Now it’s time to celebrate and get ready to shine!

To everyone waitlisted (such as myself, already bit the bullet and declined that offer) or denied, keep your heads up! This isn’t where your story ends. Yea, it may suck right now, and yea, you’re gonna be upset. That’s ok. Just know that you CAN bounce back. You WILL be great. I believe in you, so keep on doing you!

Waitlisted as a CS major w/ 1590 SAT and 9 APs. Not really hoping to get in at this point :,)

D19 waitlisted. She loved Rice when we visited, but got into her top choice with full tuition! Congrats to those admitted under the new FA policy, and good luck to those waitlisted and moving on.

anyone know when rice baylor comes out

D19 accepted. Grateful and relieved.

Also, does anyone know when Owl Days is

According to the linked article, the yield rate is expected to be in the 41% range. This is at odds with the target class size of 950 and the number of RD acceptances. As noted, the yield rate would need to be much lower than 41% to fill out the class at 950. Analysis anyone?
