@T20hopeful2023 Yes, got it. I also had Texans/Cowboys going to Superbowl.

@texaggie That would be sooo much better than Patriots/Rams

@T20hopeful2023 I saw your distinct profile at Rice and Duke, which other schools are you hopeful?

waiting on Rice, Vandy, Duke, mostly likely attend TAMU with tuition free scholarship.

Good Luck.

Waiting on Rice and Duke. I received a full tuition scholarship for Boston College so there’s a 99% chance that’s where I’m going. I’m very happy with BC but my family is still cheering for Rice. Rice and Duke would have to come through with some crazy good financial aid to change my mind (that’s IF I were to even get in). Was rejected ED at Vandy, Got into A&M but no scholarship $$.

I was referring to the “Rice Investment”, we have no demonstrated need.

Any idea on how much legacy could help an app? Double legacy? Siblings? Does rice value things like this?

My D’s portal recently updated with the date we visited the campus under “event payment”, even though we visited back in 2016. Has anyone else’s portal updated like this within the last week?

supercoolbeans, where is this “event payment” in the portal? Under “Your Rice Applications?”

RobNin, yes it is under “Recent Activities” and right above “Your Application Checklist”

@supercoolbeans nope! I visited the spring break of my sophomore year, but I don’t see anything out of the ordinary… now I am stressing!!

That would be a nope from me, too. I have nothing above my “Your Application Checklist,” no “recent activities” link.
I visited the summer before my junior year.

Same here. Junior year visit. No recent activities link.

@Hawkrunner2000 Supposedly Rice values legacy in the ED round more. The vice president of admissions came from Penn where I think that held true as well. My DD is a legacy (father) and was admitted in the ED round this year. I would like to think she got in her own merits (35ACT, 4.0UW/4.8W, lots of leadership, good essays) but who knows!

Is everyone else thinking what I’m thinking - that it will be the week of the 25th thru 29th?

If it was going to be this Friday, they probably would have emailed already yesterday or today a heads up to know when to expect. It appears that that’s what they did last year? Previously they had said in counselor communication emails that decisions would be released “last week of March” but I had been hoping that historical precedent of the previous week of March (this Friday) might turn out to be true. I just think we would have heard the official announcement of date/time by now if it was this week.

Baylor offered $120k on acceptance without an application for scholarships or honors. They also offered a shot at a full ride.

@DCCAWAMIIAIL thank you for sharing. That is helpful to know. Congrats to your kid, sounds like they deserved it, with or without legacy status.

would i benefit from choosing a “less common” major in terms of admissions?

Rice does not admit by major. You have to choose one of the schools within the university, but the choice is not binding. The schools are: architecture, music, social sciences, engineering, humanities, and natural sciences. At Rice, students can choose any major or change between majors freely. The students do not have to declare a major until the end of sophomore year. Many change majors .Rice knows this when it admits students. The distribution between the schools is shown here. https://oir.rice.edu/students-scholars/enrollment/enrollment-demographics

There are more engineering majors than any other type. Many students come in planning to go pre med but later decide to do something else. My daughter applied into the school of humanities–so perhaps that helped her a bit. She is now double majoring in English and Psychology, one in the school of humanities, and one in the school of social sciences. One of her suite mates just changed her major from Mechanical Engineering to Earth Science. This is fairly typical at Rice.

Most Rice students we met during college tour, were double or triple majors which is definitely a great option.
