Thanks so much for your insight!
Hello,
Any advice on should S22 send his SAT score (1490) to Rice? He submitted his Application under RD yesterday but didnāt include his SAT score. (3.86 uw, 4.76 w GPA) 6 APs, lots of Honors classes, Good Essay and EC
Thanks
Thatās a tough one - the 25th percentile was 1500 so many would say no.
On the flipside, 25% getting in are below that and showing it shows youāre still a 99th percentile.
Iād personally submit - and donāt think it will reject you or necessarily help you.
My daughter did not submit a 32 ACT. Had similar #s to you otherwise but more AP and got turned down. Had she sent it in, the decision would have been the same - and itās also under their 25th percentile.
The reality with Rice - few are getting in regardless.
You can go either way.
Thereās no right answer.
Donāt forget the Rice āBoxā
PS - iām not sure how a 3.86 uw can be a 4.76w with only 6 APs. Are you using .5 for Honors and 1 for AP? It seems high - the weighted.
Thanks for the update. S22 school is a magnet HS so all the classes are Honors classes which I think gives an extra 0.5 for all the honors classes.
a .5 from 3.86 + 6 AP would not get to 4.76.
No matter- Rice will recompute - and itās a reach for all.
Back to your original question - Iād have my kid submit a 1490 - because itās still 99th percentile. And it shows you are legit - you didnāt do like so many and take a pass - which if I was an AO, would interpret as didnāt have a good score.
But the argument is easily made to now submit since itās below the 25th percentile.
Theyāll reject 1600s - so you just never know - Rice is a tough nut for anyone to crack.
If youāre OOS, itāll be better odds.
Iām seeing people who early on in the process were already not receiving the Rice promo emails. Some of the ones I could find were later rejected. Anyone on here NOT receive all the promo emails but still got accepted? It sure feels like any early sign of rejection that my senior (the applicant) is left off all promo emails. Thank you and congrats to all who are at Rice!
I did like the Rice box. My D thought that was fun. Iām not sure if other colleges had that sort of question. We only applied to about 3 top 20 schools either due to having family nearby or having close friends attend the schools loving their time there.
I donāt know how I saw this thread pop up from two years ago (Iām back on CC because my middle kid is now applying), but my son applied to Rice in that cycle 2 years ago (high school class of 21) and got what felt like a billion marketing emails from Rice (or maybe I got them? Donāt recall exactly), and he was rejected. My guess is that you guys perhaps opted out of marketing?
