Rice vs UCI vs UCSD

I’m planning to major in Biology, and probably follow a pre-med track. I have a Regents Scholarship and admission into the honors program at both UC Irvine ($9,000 scholarship/yr) and UC San Diego ($5,000 scholarship/yr). I have no merit scholarships at Rice, however. Help, anyone?

UCSD, Irvine should even be considured, its Bio program is low ranking amoung the UCs

u mean shouldnt be considered?

I’ve heard a lot about UCSD from my cousin in California; he’s choosing between Berkely, UCSD, and Tufts. It has a good medical school, and I’m assuming a good pre-med program. UCSD and Irvine may be ranked lower among the UC’s, but ranks are often skewed, and the UC system is a wonderful university system overall. I’m sure that whatever school you decide to go to, you’ll get a good education.

Although I’d pick Rice, you have to consider those other schools, if only for the scholarships that you’re getting. I don’t think I’m getting any aid from Rice either, but I still love the school! It should depend on whether or not you’re willing to shell the extra money for Rice vs. a UC school, and whether money is a big enough issue to choose one school over another. Good luck!

I was misunderstood, I said pick UCSD. Irvine shouldn’t be considured. UCSD is a great school, and ranks high amoung the UCs.

UCSD is great, it’s medical school is great, therefore following a pre-med course tehre will be great.
However, I would not just not even consider Rice, b/c it’s academic programs in other areas are better than those of UCSD. I mean what if you changed your mind about medical school, you would want a school whose overall academic progams are great all around. Plus, Rice’s pre-med program is excellent. Of course money is always an issue. Did you even get finan. aid over at Rice?

i would say absolute no to uci now coming to ucsd and rice there are lots of things to consider
how imp. is location to you ? class size? individual attention ? rankings ?
maybe visit the two places the two places r so different its difficult to compare …
however if money is ur deciding factor rethink coz ucsd is not a MUCH cheaper option its maybe bout the same unless ur instate
since the cost of living will b so much higher!
im in a similar situtation only thing is im waitlisted at rice and my other option is ucla

Yes Rice should also be seriously considured.
