Rice Women's Soccer Walk-On

Is it possible? I’m applying to Rice for the 2025 term, and I was wondering if there’s any chance of making it into the varsity soccer team? I play goalkeeper, and I’m pretty good at it. However, I haven’t played in quite a while, and I just started playing again in a small club. I’m also looking into a more formal team to join, but it might take a little while. I’m confident in my abilities, but I guess I wouldn’t be able to provide the contact of any coach and stuff like that. I was thinking about walk-on tryouts, but do they even have those at Rice? I was thinking about emailing the coach, but to be honest I don’t really know what I would even say.

So is it feasible to hope to make it in a tryout? How competitive is women’s soccer at Rice? Would it be better to email the coach beforehand to ask him about all that?

Best to communicate with the coach, they are the only one who can answer your questions.

Rice didn’t have a great season, you should also look at the current GKs and their age/year in school. Massey rating here: Massey Ratings - College Soccer Women : NCAA D1 Ratings

Agree you can reach out to the coach.

You may also want to check and see if Rice has club soccer which could be a good/lower commitment outlet.

I would jump into one of the ID camps this summer. That would give you a better gauge on the level D1 and may present an opportunity to talk with some of the coaches about your particular situation.

This camp is strictly for goal keeping.

Rice also has a good women’s club soccer team.
