<p>My mom loves the TV show Castle (I think she likes to look at the male lead). I didn’t realize that Richard Castle is a real Author. Are his books any good? She likes to read and she may enjoy the books even though they aren’t written by the man who plays the part.</p>

<p>The books are not actually written by Richard Castle; he is a fictional character played by Nathan Fillion. While his picture is on the book jackets and he has been know to show up at book signing, all the books are written by a ghost writer, one that has never been named. </p>
<p>That all said, your mother might enjoy the books if she enjoys mystery books.</p>
<p>I read the first one shortly after it was first published. I found it just okay: it lacked the charm of the show, in my opinion. I did not read any of the others.</p>
<p>The books are not expensive and your mom just may enjoy the novelty of a Richard Castle book. I thought that was the fun part myself.</p>
<p>I haven’t read any of the books, but I agree with your mom…Nathan Fillion is easy on the eyes and am a fan of the show. 
I agree that even if the book isn’t top notch literary genius she’ll appreciate the tie in and enjoy it.</p>
<p>As others have said, Richard Castle is not a real person. The books are books “written” by the fictional character. I read them on my daughter’s nook. They were enjoyable enough if you follow the show - definitely some similarities between the “real” characters in the show and the “fictional” characters in the book, based on the premise that Castle is basing his fictional characters on his “real” life escapades.</p>
<p>As ignatius said, that is what makes the books fun.</p>
<p>They did the same thing with Murder, She Wrote - there are a few (not terrible not great) books “written” by Jessica Fletcher.</p>
<p>From what I’ve heard (insert caveat about rumors here), some of the screenwriters for Castle are also responsible for the books. It’s likely why they’re more “1 episode” in length rather than true novels.</p>
<p>They’re pretty fun reads, if you love the show you’ll enjoy the books. They’re no great literary masterpieces, but very good bang for your buck in terms of reading time.</p>

<p>It is an entertaining show, but I definitely think that the female lead far outclasses Castle.</p>
