Richardson as Veep Candidate

But big events reveal smallness, such as that of New Mexico’s Gov. Bill Richardson.</p>

<p>On ABC’s “This Week,” Richardson, auditioning to be Barack Obama’s running mate, disqualified himself. Clinging to the Obama campaign’s talking points like a drunk to a lamppost, Richardson said this crisis proves the wisdom of Obama’s zest for diplomacy, and that America should get the U.N. Security Council “to pass a strong resolution getting the Russians to show some restraint.” Apparently Richardson was ambassador to the U.N. for 19 months without noticing that Russia has a Security Council veto.

<p>Well, I don’t think Richardson is on the short list anyway. </p>

<p>But McCain actually copied big chunks of his speech from Wikipedia. So far Obama seems to be the only one who understands that the people who live in South Ossetia do not want to be part of Georgia, and that this whole thing started when Georgia launched an attack and killed something like 1500 civilians there. </p>

<p>I do think that Russia’s response is grossly out of proportion, so the balance of “blame” has pretty much shifted to Russia – but to paint this as if it were entirely a case of Russian aggression while ignoring the plight of the Ossetian separatists is just a bunch of rhetoric and saber rattling. I noticed McCain seemed more concerned about rescuing the pipeline than providing humanitarian relief to the people – Obama referred to helping with casualties on both sides. </p>

<p>Maybe Russia has been waiting for Georgia to make a mistake to give the a chance to attack them. They also engaged in a cyber attack on Gerogia before, and during the attacks.</p>
