Riding mower headlights: Diff. bulbs required for each brand or interchangeable?

I just got a great deal on a new scratch-and-dent model of riding mower sold as surplus which has headlights but no bulbs installed. Can I just go to an auto parts store and find some bulbs that will fit or will they likely require specialty bulbs that are specific to the brand?

I have two thoughts about this:

1) if you need headlights so you can cut the grass in the dark… you are working too hard.

2) I’d be surprised if a riding mower is selling in sufficient quantity that it would justify custom-designing and custom-manufacturing a light bulb. Don’t know if it would be an automotive bulb or not.

Can you locate the manuals for the mower on-line? I’ve found that most companies have their manuals available on their web sites these days, even for older equipment they don’t make any more.

I like thought #1. :)

Why would you even need headlights on a lawn tractor? I can’t imagine a manufacturer not telling users not to operate the machine other than daylight. That’s probably how the mower got dinged up–the last guy was driving it around at night with no bulbs! Just go to auto parts store or a lawn mower repair place with the mower and they’ll come out and figure out what you need. Good luck with your project–your spouse his going to love the present!
