Riepe vs. Ware

This may be in another thread around here but, I was wondering if a current student could basically lay out the main differences for me… I’m not interested in any residential programs by the way.
All I know is that they’re both in the quad and both mostly freshman. So can someone tell me what is it about each of these that makes it a better place to live in than the other? Or, is there anything people don’t like about either?

They are basically the same. However, Ware has a newer (not as nice), 1950s section that looks slightly different from the rest of the quad (the south part of the lower quad - Butcher and Speakman). Inside, the hallways are green and fluorescent with tile floors and cement walls. I believe the rooms in those sections have carpet. The other side of Ware (the part that’s along Spruce Street) is just like Riepe. In fact, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell which house you are in without looking at the room plaques. Riepe has hardwood floors in the hallways and in the rooms. Hmm, those are the only real differences that I can think of.

From what I hear, Riepe isn’t requested as a first choice as much as the other houses in the quad. I’m not sure why - the entire quad is connected by the hallway inside anyway. Some of my friends didn’t even request Riepe and they got nice singles there.

Some parts of Butcher/Speakman have linoleum flooring. That same side looks very unwelcoming and gross. The other side is nicer (Rodney, Coxe, EF Smith, etc.).

Riepe has nicer rooms and halls in general. Hardwood flooring is great.

The main difference between Riepe and Ware is the amount of house events. Riepe does a TON of activities involving food; there’s almost always something going on. It has much more of a community than does ware. Ware does practically nothing.

Keep in mind that the amount of hall events may depend on the RAs and GAs, which can change from year to year.

halls in ware do stuff depending on the RA/GA, but they generally don’t do stuff as a house. I’ve stolen cookies from hall events.
Riepe does cookie night with dean deturck every wednesday. it’s a house-wide event.
