Right-handed, Left-handed, Ambidextrous, or Mix-handed?

I was listening to an interesting discussion on the radio this morning about handwriting and handedness, and I’m curious fellow CC parents: Are you right-handed, left-handed, ambidextrous, or mix-handed (where you perform different tasks better with different hands)?

I’m apparently “mix-handed” and feeling a little bad as I always though of myself as a lefty!

amphibious.

Very right handed. I can not do a thing with my left hand.

Spouse is mixed: left handed for everything except sports.

I think the new dog is left-pawed!

Mostly a leftie.

I’m mostly left-handed, but have always used a knife and scissors with my right hand. My older D is completely left-handed, cannot do a thing with her right. My grandfather was left-handed, but his Catholic school beat that out of him and was right handed at least for writing after that. My H, younger D and S are all right-handed for everything.

Left handed, as is one kid.

I’m a tiny bit mixed. I’m right-handed for most everything but I cook with my left and use a fork with either left or right depending on mood and circumstance.

Lefty but I’m finding myself more ambi as I’ve gotten older. My theory is the influence of keyboarding as opposed to writing these days and more time living in a right handed world having its influence (scissors, etc.)

Lot’s of lefties here!

Mixed…I started out as a kid as being ambidextrous, but ended up left handed with writing and eating, and right handed with other things, like using tools, batting a baseball and throwing. Actually not that hard to see why, when I was young my sister used to play “school” with me (the only time it was play!), and she was left handed, so she would put the pencil in my left hand and I got used to that (my mom when I started school would tell the teachers to leave me alone and not try and get me to use one hand or the other, so I used to start writing with one hand, then switch to the other). On the other hand, my father and brother are right handed, so when using tools, etc, I mimicked them.

I am kind of sorry I didn’t stay ambidextrous, would have been cool to have been able to bat or pitch with either hand:)

cross-dominant

mixed i guess because i write right-handed, throw and play basketball left-handed. tennis is kind of weird b/c i serve left handed and play right handed the rest of the time.

I have an in-law who is ambidextrous and finds it useful when he does surgery and doesn’t see what ALL docs won’t operate with both hands. LOL! I am mostly left-handed but can do some things with either hand. I golf as a right-hander because my law firm bought me a set of right-handed clubs before remembering I’m a leftie! I’m not a great golfer no matter which way I hold the clubs.

My H and I are both left-handed for writing. But we usually buy unsliced bread, so after I cut the bread with my right hand, he comes and turns the loaf around and cuts it with his left hand. But we both eat using forks with our left hands. I guess I am a fork lefty and a knife righty.

Writing is right only but I’m mixed on other things. My older sister is a leftie so my theory is that I followed how she did things. It was very handy in sports. I can bat left and right for example.

I’m learning to be more ambidextrous. My right wrist is far more sensitive to my arthritis so I’m trying to use my left whenever possible.

Supposedly mix-handedness (cross-dominance) only occurs in 1% of the population and is linked with “mental health, language and scholastic problems” in childhood and adolescence. So glad I didn’t know that when I was a kid!

Apparently CC is the refuge of the mix-handed!

My H and I are right-handed as well as our 2 older sons. The 3rd is left-handed in most things except for golf, lacrosse and tennis. He throws left handed, though with footballs, baseballs, etc. He is however quite mix-handed I notice and seems to go back and forth but the left seems to dominate - he’s dyslexic.

Right handed, same as husband and kids. Both parents right handed.

My sister is a lefty and married another lefty but their kid is right handed.

I’m mixed handed.
DH is left handed. DD is left handed. DS is right handed.

My dad was left handed. My mom was right handed.

My FIL and MIL are both right handed.

My sisters…of the four of us…2 right…2 left.

My husband’s sibs…3 left, 3 right.
