I am considering taking AP Spanish Language and Culture, and I was wondering how rigorous the course is and difficult the exam is. I am not a native speaker.
During my eighth grade year, I took Spanish I. I took Spanish II Pre-IB last year, and am currently enrolled in IB Spanish SL Year 1 (which is equivalent to Spanish 4-5). While I am not advancing in the language with impressive proficiency, I am succeeding in the class and enjoy learning the language.
Thank you for your time and input.
As another non-native speaker, I can let you know that we need to use time to our advantage. What I mean is that it is really hard to rush learning a language. I took Spanish 1 and 2 split up into 2 years each (I was in middle school), 3 honors, and am currently in AP Spanish Language and Culture. I feel fairly comfortable in the class because it is mostly a detailed review of what I have learned over the past 5 years. However, from looking through practice AP tests I had a better understanding of the difficulty. I would suggest doing that. I am not trying to discourage you, because if you enjoy Spanish that will definitely help you. Just put in some extra effort to immerse yourself, and you will know how you feel about the exam. Good luck!
