This cupping was a standard cold remedy that my grandma used on me. She was not Chinese. I hated it.
This is what you use when you live in a poor country without access to efficient medications.
Recently my daughter inquired about it. I did not know that it is all the rage now.
It runs along meridians like acupuncture
@doschicos - leeches are used to help circulation in areas with small capillary action. http://www.healthline.com/health/what-is-leech-therapy
I’ve also heard they are effectively used to help healing wounds that otherwise won’t heal, @jym626. What’s old is new again, as they say.
All kidding aside, I do think some ancient healing methods can have merit. I think our generation can be too quick to reach for pharmaceuticals and its worth trying other remedies sometimes.
Wasn’t cupping a challenge on the Amazing Race one time?? Seems to me that it was ridiculously painful.
We were watching the local news on our CBS affiliate this evening and noticed that there wasn’t one reference to the Olympic games. It was like they didn’t even exist. S said that other networks aren’t allowed to report on them at all. Is that true? What a shame.
Also, I really miss seeing other countries’ gold medal presentations. I always liked hearing the other natilnal anthems. I KNOW what ours sound like.
I read there is something called facial cupping that helps reduce acne.
Ryan Seacrest seems like he will be a good successor to the annoyance which is a staple of Costas.
Where’s Johnny Weir? I know he’s a skating commentator but I love him. He’s refreshing and fun. They should have him do some stuff.
Go to YouTube and search for ‘Amazing race cupping’, the first two clips are pretty funny. It shouldn’t really be painful like they show. As a massage technique it doesn’t normally leave those marks like Phelps has AFAIK. Had it done once, but probably wasn’t done very well because it seemed worthless.
Go Team USA
I was wondering about that! Congrats to the USA on that team win!
4 x 100 meter freestyle relay, gold for USA!
It’s interesting that the swimmers are going back to more conventional, less coverage swimsuits. I remember back in 2012 that even some of the guys were wearing the body suits.
Unbelievable result in the Brazil-Iraq soccer match. Given what’s going on in their country, I’m surprised Iraq even has a team in these Games. Pretty pathetic that we don’t.
Some of the super high-tech bodysuits were banned by FINA as “skin dope.”
Watching gymnastics here on the West coast. Laurie Hernandes is so cute. She looks like Skipper, Barbie’s little sister.
So adorable!

The international swimming federation banned the body suits. It was discovered the body suits aided in buoyancy which contributed to the fast swim times.
I’ve had cupping done before by a massage therapist (not my regular one; I was traveling). It really did the trick in the area I was tight (scapula, lats), but I think it did leave some small marks. I would definitely do it again.
Holy JP Morgan… The gymnast from Uzbekistan who is competing in her 7th Games is amazing.
The 41 year old gymnast qualified for the finals in the vault. Not only still competing but competing on a very high level. Says she isn’t sure at this point if she will come back for the 2020 games. Impressive.
