He was 18 months older than I am. Definitely the loss of someone very important from the culture of my generation.
http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-35278872. Sad. Didn’t know he had cancer. My youth is dying.
I’m a big fan (I even have the “Tin Machine” album). I played “Fame” so many times I feared the vinyl record would unravel. I saw him live once (in Norfolk, Va.) and he was excellent.
Rebel Rebel…
Planet Earth is blue and there’s nothing I can do.
One of my top 10 favorite musicians. Still love “Let’s Dance”
I’m both shocked and very sad. RIP.
Here’s Todd Zwillig just 3 days ago telling us why Bowie was the most influential living musician today. http://www.thetakeaway.org/story/zwillich-bowie-most-influential-living-musician/?utm_source=/story/tony-visconti-bowie/&utm_medium=treatment&utm_campaign=morelikethis
His music transcended all cultures and tastes. I started thinking about all of his songs. My husband, who can never place an artist with his/her music, was equally shocked that Bowie’s music was legend with certain time periods. We will miss him. What a tragic loss for his family.
Garland - I may steal that for FB!
Of course; I’m sure I’m not the only one who used it.
And this cartoon from The New Yorker is pretty much perfect:

Interesting listening to Gene Simmons being interviewed on CNN - referred to Bowie several times as the “artists’ artist”.
So sad today he was the artist I grew up and old with. Glad to have had the opportunity to see him a couple times. The video today stunned me.
Bowie was my first concert as a teenager, and I just read the great review about his new album on rollingstone.com yesterday (I had incidentally gone to the site to read about Lemmy’s memorial). So sad - RIP.
@momofthreeboys --Yes, that video was stunning, terrifying, brave.
Been feeling his loss all day. His music was a part of my life for so long. Loved all his music. He was an artist extraordinaire.
Loved this guy. Such a trendsetter!!!
A radio commentator yesterday said that Bowie was essentially the first entertainment icon to publicly criticize MTV for ignoring Black artists. Shortly thereafter MTV premiered Michael Jackson’s ‘Billie Jean,’ or so the story goes. By the way, Space Oddity is not about lampooning or criticizing NASA. It is about isolation and loneliness.
People haven’t said much about his acting and the interesting movies he did. I have always wanted to see ‘Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence,’ and will see if Netflix has it.
"By the way, Space Oddity is not about lampooning or criticizing NASA. "
Did someone say that - either on this thread, or elsewhere? I haven’t heard that ever suggested.
