<p>I used to share an elevator bank with him. What a wonderful man. Something that may not have been as noticeable in his public persona is that he was an old fashioned gentleman in his personal dealings.</p>
<p>As a NYC resident for much of Koch’s tenure, I have to say that I loved him. I did not always agree with him, but I found him sincere, caring, intelligent, and entertaining. Peace to his family.</p>
<p>My mom loved Ed Koch. She used to write to him frequently, giving her opinion of his latest speech or initiative, he always responded with a short handwritten note!</p>
<p>He was a fixture of NYC during my young childhood and loved his pitch for NYC. </p>
<p>However, there were some things I disagreed with him about…such as his endorsement of Vladimir Putin’s excessive and overreaching punishment of a female punk rock band for their protest of Russian Orthodox Church’s increasing political and social dominance over Russian society. Especially when that dominance had serious ancien regime authoritarian overtones.</p>
