According to a number of sources, he just died in Italy of a massive heart attack, at the age of 51. How terribly sad.

How shocking and terrible. God bless.

I just saw this sad news online.
Only 51 years old. You never know.

Just heard, so sad.

No way! last thing I saw him in was the movie with Brad Pitt (killing them softly). That’s so sad.

Oh my. Very sad and shocking. Only 51. :(

Just saw the news. This is too young. So sad. RIP.

Very tragic. Poor wife, poor baby who will never know her father. I’m grateful we got to appreciate his talents on The Sopranos, and I’m glad I got to see him on stage in God of Carnage. Gosh, I don’t think I’ve been this taken aback by a celebrity’s premature death since Tim Russert passed.

While I know obesity was not necessarily the cause of Gandolfini’s heart attack, I hope his death makes some other middle aged men carrying a ton of excess weight stop and think about their health. Though his weight fluctuated over the years, Gandolfini always struck me as the classic “walking heart attack”.

Oh no! Such sad news. I was a fan.

Great actor, who created one of the greatest TV characters ever. Gone too soon.

That is very sad.
Im losing ten lbs now.
I never saw the Sopranos, but I just saw Get Shorty again and Zero Dark Thirty, & he was great.
I dont know if his heart attack was related to his weight or not, but it sure ages you.
I think it also must be very hard on your body to gain and lose weight for roles.
Prayers to his family and friends, especially his children and wife.
:(

Oh, I am so sorry to read this! I admired him so much. A great actor, a great loss.

I’m sad to learn this.

Yes, good motivation for me to keep running! I need to lose weight, too.

DH and I watched the entire series a couple years ago; it got us through a long winter. Great show, great actor.

He has a teenage son, too. Very sad.

A new baby too. I was also shocked- loved him in The Sopranos and Surviving Christmas.

Heres a nice interview from the Actors Studio.

Such sad news. A wonderful talent.

Despite living in Soprano land, I rarely watched the show. I think he was a fine actor, though, and seemed like a decent person. Very sad.

This last scene of the show was filmed very near where we live; we brought the kids here all the time when they were young.
