RIP, Jeff Galloway '67

Old Cards of a certain vintage will remember when Wesleyan was a dominant presence in the infant running for fitness movement:

“Galloway ran track and cross-country at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, receiving a bachelor’s degree in history in 1967. Two of his teammates were Amby Burfoot, who won the 1968 Boston Marathon, and Bill Rodgers, who won the New York City and Boston marathons four times apiece from 1975 to 1980.”

Jeff Galloway was well known in Atlanta; he won the first Peachtree Road Race in 1970 and maintained a high profile in distance running for many decades thereafter.

Jeff Galloway was a fixture in the the Atlanta running community and his methods encouraged participation for those who may have been discouraged from trying running/walking.

As an aside, his parents founded The Galloway School, where some of my family members attended. The Galloway Family had a positive influence on Atlanta in many areas.

Just FYI. His death was also noted and discussed on the More Celebrity RIPs thread several days ago if people want to read what others have posted there.
