And actually, visualization of vocal cords for damage, can be done in an ENT’s office. You don’t need an endoscopy to just look at someone’s vocal cords.

^^^Yeah, but if they thought she had GERD, they could conceivably be very interested in looking at her esophagus to check for Barrett’s, as well as looking for other problems in the stomach.

Oh, I know… it’s just I’m having a hard time believing the stories that she was in the clinic for an endoscopy to look at her vocal cords. I can’t believe no one (the media, not here) hasn’t said anything about her needing the endoscopy to look at her esophagus and stomach, that symptoms of GERD could be responsible for vocal cord issues. You’d think that someone would state the obvious, but I haven’t read it anywhere.

I find it hard to believe that this clinic won’t take a major financial hit, not just from a lawsuit, but from the bad publicity. It doesn’t take a huge drop in patients to really hurt a business. A 10% drop can make the difference. All it takes is 1 in 10 people to say, “hmmm…I’m going to go elsewhere” or “I’m going to take my child elsewhere,” for a business to start running in the red.

So their waiting list will be only one month instead of three… They will be fine.

It depends what happened. Personally, I’m not at all convinced he clinic killed her. She also brought her own doctor which is something most people do not do, so there is that.

Clinic Medical Director resigns after letting private doctor do something during the exam.

Yep… that doctor needs to be gone if what we are reading now is true.

I am a big Joan Rivers fan, and H & I finally decided to see her show. We got tickets to see her in November … right up front at a small venue near our home … the week before she had the procedure that led to her death. We are doubly sad.

Oh for the love of Pete…

Ick… just ick.

This story just gets more and more bizarre; I hope lots of heads fly on this one.

Horrible and disgusting behavior!

I would love to be her family’s attorney filing for malpractice and getting their mitts on that photo.

Oh my! This story is just getting more upsetting. Poor Melissa and her son hearing this odd/weird stuff.

Okay this does not surprise me one bit but legally what does it mean? She brought this guy with her and likely had an ongoing relationship with him I am guessing. So, the clinic gave him free reign, wrongly. Now what?

Where do we begin? Were his hands on the phone instead of on the surgical equipment? Was it sterile? Did she give permission to be photographed? Especially under those circumstances? So there may be a a rather unsettling photo of an intubated Joan Rivers with a smiling physician? Oh heavens no. Just wrong.

The endoscopy center where I work is physician owned. However, no way could this happen without other staff speaking up and calling the physician out. We all value our licenses to practice, but more than that, most of us take seriously the right of the patient to good care and maintenance of their dignity.

It sounds like there were no checks and balances here with regard to the power of the physician(s). IF this actually happened (and I am still wary of anonymous reports from “sources”), those involved WILL be held accountable. If they were counting on silence/collusion from ancillary support staff, they are going to be sadly disappointed once the depositions take place.

It sounds like other staff is speaking up. The reports cite a staff member with leaking the selfie story. But, I don’t get why her personal physician would want a selfie. Presumably he or she is not starstruck… I did see bunches of tourists taking selfies at her star in Hollywood on the day of the funeral but that is not the same thing at all.

I just hope that some good can come out of this tragedy. This story is just getting worse and worse.
