RIP Jonathan Frid

How utterly weird that this happened almost a week ago and just publicized…

with the May 11th premier of the Tim Burton version of Dark Shadows…Frid has a cameo…

I am really getting old…

<a href=“Archive blogs”>Archive blogs;

I used to go home after school and watch Dark Shadows.

Great show…and of course Jonathan Frid was great.

He is going to miss the premier of the movie…

no! Not Barnabus!

My wise-guy H just texted me: “maybe he will rise for the premiere”…yuck, yuck…

Dark Shadows was my young indoctrination into daytime ABC-TV…to me, this is the end of an era along with the cancellation of AMC and OLTL this year…

Like American Bandstand and Dick Clark (although not as famous, obviously)

Given Johnny Depp was a huge fan, the next few weeks should be interesting on the interview/morning show circuit…

Oh my goodness, my boss and I were just talking about Dark Shadows yesterday at work…just random conversation. Had no idea Barnabas Collins had died recently.

^^you and everyone else it seems…6 days later…

And he died on Friday the 13th. I, too, used to run home from school when I could to watch the show. At one point, I couldn’t get there until it was over. In the days before VCRs and other recording devices, I did have a cassette tape recorder. I set up the recorder with the mike sitting in front of the console TV speaker. It was plugged in via extension cord to the timer on the stove that could turn the over on at a pre-set time. For at least 6 months, I recorded every episode and listened to them over and over. Somewhere in the basement, I still have a collection of all the DS novels that they published.

I am soooo looking forward to the movie.

Love Johnny Depp.

Love Tim Burton films.

Dark shadows scared the bejesus out of me as a kid, but we all raced home to watch it.

^^hehe…Quentin…I still see everything David Selby is ever in!!

I had such a crush on Barnabas. I wish I had realized that a crush on a completely unavailable vampire did not bode well for my taste in men later in life.

i even had (maybe still have) the dark shadows board game.

I wasn’t allowed to watch it because it was E-VIL. I had to watch it at my friend’s house.

Oh noooo. :frowning: :frowning: Another loss from my childhood. I had just seen the remake movie and wondered if Jonathan would come “out of the shadows” fo make any comments. There have been so many reunion things from old tv shows on lately, I thought maybe they would have some of the old characters. But sadly, I guess “old” is the operative word.

And Rodney- I like your DH’s sense of humor
