RIP Leonard Nimoy

Not a Star Trek fan, but a fan of how he was such a classy guy. Along with @shelz and @romanigypsyeyes, I also hope for a nod from BBT. I cry every single time that Christmas episode airs at Sheldon’s delight in his present from Penny.

A tweet from the US Patent and Trademark Office:

“Thanks Leonard Nimoy for fascinating generations of scientists”

Nimoy’s granddaughter is selling Live Long & Prosper TShirts to help raise money for COPD research.

Spock was my first celebrity crush. Time has validated my taste as an 11-year-old.

@romanigypsyeyes‌ - Yes, TBBT has to do a tribute. My very favorite TBBT episode is the one where Penny gives Sheldon a Nimoy-related item as a Christmas gift. The last scene is priceless:

“All I need is a healthy ovum and I can grow my own Leonard Nimoy!”

ETA – @2VU0609‌ - I posted this before I saw your post.

I never missed a Star Trek episode when the show was first on from 1966-1969. I occasionally catch an episode today, but to get through it, I need to rely on my huge affection for the franchise as well as the idea that humanity will still be around in the 23rd century. The writing has aged fairly well, but the production values obviously have not. Many of the performances seem cringe-worthy to me today (looking at you, William Shatner). But NOT Leonard Nimoy’s! His work truly stands up and is as compelling today as it was almost 50 years ago. That’s a rare accomplishment. If not for the Spock character, I don’t know that we’d still be enjoying Star Trek so many versions later.

Nimoy provided the Spock voice for another BBT episode - “The Transporter Malfunction,” in which Sheldon tries to substitute his damaged Spock action figure for Leonard’s undamaged one. I don’t know whether BBT is still in production for this season but if it is, I’m sure the writers will pay tribute in some way.

Yes, it’s still going. I had forgotten the “tiny Spock” episode. Those scenes are hilarious.

An interview with Leonard Nimoy from a few years ago, about his Mameloshen – his mother tongue (Yiddish), and his childhood and parents in Boston. The portions where he speaks in Yiddish are subtitled: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QAYvI5CC5s

The odd thing is that I always felt so close to Spock, but even now know practically nothing about Nimoy. Sad that he signed out.

Growing up in heavily Catholic Boston, Nimoy knew the feeling of being the “other”, and he drew heavily on that for Spock. I always loved Spock, especially as he grew through all the various iterations of Star Trek. Nimoy was an intelligent, warm man, and he will be missed.

I saw him in an old episode of 'Sea Hunt"

We always watch Star Trek TOS on Saturday nights. Tonight they aired one of my favorite episodes, “Amok Time,” which was one of Nimoy’s best showcases on the series. I appreciated that Shatner’s acting was restrained in this one, allowing Nimoy to take center stage. Classic.

If any of you get the [MeTV network](http://metvnetwork.com/), they are doing a tribute this weekend, showing his work in shows like Bonanza and Twilight Zone.

^^ We just watched Amok Time again last night and concentrated on Nimoy’s acting. It was quite remarkable and holds up beautifully.

We also watched “The Undiscovered Country” movie and D hadn’t seen it since middle school and, this time, was thrilled to recognize all the Shakespeare lines. Bonus to have Christopher Plummer and David Warner in it also.
