RIP Mario Cuomo

Former New York Governor Mario Cuomo, who served three terms from 1983 to 1994, and whose son currently holds the office, has died at the age of 82.

Cuomo died of heart failure Thursday evening, hours after his son, Gov. Andrew Cuomo, delivered a speech to kick off his second term as governor. Andrew Cuomo said his father was unable to attend the ceremony because of his health, but was present in spirit.

Mario was the first governor my H worked for. He greatly admired him even though he could be very tough to work for.

Truly a man to be admired and appreciated

All of here in NY are sad about the passing of Mario Cuomo, what a class act, such an eloquent speaker and a man who stuck to his principles while making some difficult decisions, personal and political. Mario was very present behind the scenes in Andrew Cuomo’s administration. I have a close friend whose son has worked in close proximity to AC and was given the “family blessing” by MC.

One friend who was a former supervisor said of Mario Cuomo “An icon of my twentysomething years has just passed”.

In my case, I just need to substitute childhood-adolescence for twentysomething years. He was governor from my elementary school years till almost end of high school.

I also noticed tributes to him were flowing even from the staunchest conservatives among my FB friends.
