Just heard that she passed away at age 80. Very sad news.
Just saw that ion my news feed too, after seeing earlier that she was doing poorly in CT hospital. So sad.
Loved the MTM show. Our whole family watched it. Sad.
Oh, no! I’m so sorry. I can’t describe how I loved the MTM show. She was just so perfect (and so different) in two of the greatest comedies TV ever produced - The Dick van Dyke Show and her own. Very sad news indeed.
Oh, man. I loved her show as a kid. Who doesn’t remember that classic"Chuckles the Clown" episode and Chuckles’ eulogy: “A little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down your pants.”
RIP, MTM. A little song, indeed…
I didn’t realize she was ill. So sad. I have great memories of the Dick van dyke show as a kid, and of course loved the MTM show.
RIP. 80 is just too young these days. Loved her shows.
My parents just messaged me. We used to watch her old shows on TV Land all the time.
Ugh
May she rest peacefully…
Great actress, both comedic and more serious stuff.
Love the Dick Van Dyke Show, MTM show.
She was always so classy.
Joining the camp.
Such sad news. I agree that 80 is “young” these days.
Who can turn the world on with her smile?
Who can take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile?
Well it’s you girl, and you should know it
With each glance and every little movement you show it
I’m so sad. The world lost a great soul.
I saw a Dick Van Dyke interview where he said at first that he thought she couldn’t do the part for the DVD show and then was ultimately blown away by how funny and real she was.
Just replayed her theme song on youtube. Watch you - you can’t help but smile. Thanks for the smiles and laughs Mary.
Loved the MTM Show so much!
I have the most wonderful childhood memory of watching the Chuckles the Clown episode with my mom, in our tiny “TV room”, and seeing her laugh like I’d never seen her laugh ever before.
As a child, I was astonished! Tears rolling down her cheeks, bent over in a belly-aching fit of pure delightful laughter.
Thank you MTM!
Gouf78 that was the MTM theme song.
I loved MTM. I wanted to be her when I was growing up. Unfortunately her real life was pretty sad.
@doschicos thanks. I’m now trying to silently sob in the common area of a science building on campus.
Sorry, @romanigypsyeyes. Yeah, I teared up listening to the song.
Really liked her on the Dick Van Dyke Show, and especially on the MTM Show. It was original TV at that time.
Ordinary People is one of my favorite movies. Her performance, given her comedy pedigree, was surprising, in a good way.
Oh how I wish this were fake news.
