He never lost his enthusiasm for baseball or for life.

I wonder if Eddie Vedder will get his childhood baseball mitt back?

No Cubs fans?

A real class act.

I was surprised that he had played in the Negro Leagues. I had thought his career started after that time period.

A shame that he never got to play in a post season game.

We are die hard Cubs fans here. We lived about 2 hours from downtown Chicago for several years. Our community built a Little Wrigley Field while we lived there and invited several former Cubs players from time to time. We have pictures with Ron Santo, Fergusen Jenkins and Ernie Banks. Those were great times and great conversations with all three of them. (though I think Ron Santo must have been having a bad day the day we met him, he was kind of grumpy. Not rude or bad tempered, just grumpy).

Ernie Banks was a great guy and a great ambassador for baseball and the Cubs.

For me these three-Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Ron Santo will stand out together. Now there is only one left.

I met Ron at a game the summer before he died. He was very gracious,

As a teen I would often go to Wrigley Field by bus with friends, 2 hours, many buses.

RIP, Ernie. You will always be Mr. Cub.

I was raised outside of Chicago to be a die-hard Cubs fan – I’d skip school every opening day. Ernie Banks was a big part of my childhood, along with all the players of his generation. Now that I’m in the PNW I follow the Mariners, but I still keep an eye on the Cubbies. Too bad Ernie didn’t get to see them play in the World Series. RIP
