In Prince’s case, given the near-fatal incident just days before, it is hard to see how anyone could say that he wasn’t acting with at least deliberate indifference to the consequences. In most other contexts, acting with deliberate indifference to probable consequences would be considered an intentional act, so I can see why the “accidental” label would strike some people as sounding wrong, somehow. The whole thing is just so sad.
What is sad to me is that after that incident nobody around him insisted he stay in the hospital or go directly to rehab . He had no wife or children , seemed to have been left by himself in that big compound, despite clearly having major issues with this drug. Very sad.
We don’t know that people close to him didn’t “insist” that he stay in a hospital or go directly to rehab. He could have refused. How would we know? From what I understand, he was a strong willed, independent individual who wasn’t easily pushed around or convinced to do things he didn’t want to do.
I agree. We don’t know . But he clearly needed help. I wonder if there was any psych consult done or what kind of assessment he really got after that incident.
