RIP Robin Williams

Thanks for those. One of my favorite shows, just perfect for Robin Williams.

Watching them now, sniffle sniffle. :(

I’m glad we live in a day and age when those performances have been recorded and available.

I could not believe how he was so quick, so funny, I thought of him as a complete genius. he was bipolar. I have had family members who did not like taking the meds as it stunted the manic side. of course I do not know or judge anything about him. I also knew people who self medicated with alcohol. He was quoted as saying the cocaine 'quieted" him. It is so sad, I hope he is a peace. I pray for his family. I will miss him.

Financial troubles are being blamed, now. Reports are that he lost most of his money in divorces and didn’t want to do his upcoming projects but felt he had to in order to pay bills.

Amen!

If anyone’s interested, there is a press conference about to begin on CNN.

I totally agree with the statements that he had courage. It’s not a battle but a war that never really ends. You run out of resources to fight. Lasting 63 years is a testament to his deep well of spirit. He ran out of time to live.

Sheriff Office representative says that Robin Williams hung himself with a belt.

I’m so sad about this.

But are also reporting there were superficial cuts to his wrist, with a knife present. But yes, asphyxiation.

He was found by his personal assistant. That is sad.

I noticed how several of the reporters jumped on the “separate rooms” statement.

Yup. Because his wife went to bed and then woke up and left the home only to return after the PA found the body.

Robin on one of his best days:

<a href=“Relive Robin Williams' Glorious 1998 Oscar Speech For 'Good Will Hunting' | HuffPost Entertainment”>HuffPost - Breaking News, U.S. and World News | HuffPost;

I feel very sad about his passing. My family enjoyed watching him many times over the years in Mrs. Doubtfire, Patch Adams, and Goodwill Hunting. There was something just so sweet about him. My heart goes out to his family as they grieve this sudden loss.

Very sad, it is one of the ironies of life that many of the people who make us laugh often themselves are depressive, crying inside while they make us laugh. Robin’s idol, Jonathan Winters, was like that, and the two shared a lot of common characteristics, they both could take an item, a piece of cloth, a hat, and go off on an improvised routine around it that was amazing. I think my favorite turn (in a crap movie) was his turn as the DJ in “Good Morning Vietnam”, I wasn’t fond of the movie per se, but his role as the DJ was unreal, and from what I recall, it was all improvised. Apparently he had a heart as well, Jessica Chastain, the actress, said the Robin paid her way through Juilliard, including being able to come home on holidays and such, and the school said he supported others the same way.

My feeling when I read about things like this is profound sadness, that his demons finally got him and took a talented man from this earth. Being human, he had his flaws, and I suspect he wasn’t easy to live with at times, but he left behind quite a legacy. Like another person who recently died, de facto committed suicide, Philip Seymour Hoffman, you kind of wonder what else they would have been able to do, had they been graced with more time.

Ugh. So tragic. I imagine his family has lived with the fear of this for years and probably spent many, many days and nights worried about this moment. What a tragic loss of life and how sad that his depression was so profound that this was what he thought of as his best option. I can’t fathom that depth of pain and suffering. I wonder how surprised he’d be to know the reaction all over the world.

Yes many comedians have depression issues, I think it was Jerry Seinfeld that was talking about that once.
I don’t think anyone can fully understand the pain and overwhelming depression that can make someone go against the natural urge to live. I know he loved his children very much and I hope his family has the support they need to start to live without him.

Best of Times (1986). Can’t say it is the best sports movie but Robin Williams was hysterical!

So today the story has been mentioning his recent heart surgery and the link between heart surgery and depression. I’ve heard this link between heart surgery and depression mentioned before in passing, but some of the people (medical professionals) speaking today are talking about it as if it is now proven. Is this true?

IIRC, up to 20% of people who have bypass surgery are later diagnosed with major clinical depression. There are probably several factors which play into this.
